After owning a 360, it's hard to believe just how quiet the PS3 runs. The difference is unbelievable. Like Moses said, sometimes it's easy to forget that it is on.

No, PS3 dissipates heat very well. Never had any problems whatsoever with heat. Hell, I've only had one freeze since I've had the system, and that was after playing about 12 games of NBA 2k8 with my roommates.

Alright that's good to hear. I hope my 360 doesn't get pissed and go all RROD on me when I bring my PS3 into my house. I'm going to try to sneak it in and hope it doesn't notice.

LOL. I should probably be more sensitive to these issues. When traveling back and forth from home to school I pack my PS3 in an extra 360 coffin I received.

          That is pretty funny.

I agree though, it is amazing how quiet it is. Especially since it has the power supply inside. Couple days ago I was playing GTA for 3 hours straight and not once did I hear the fan go to 2nd gear.

Can someone tell me how many inches tall and wide the PS3 is? I'm trying to make sure that how I want to fit it into my ent. center is going to work. Also, is the HDMI connector on the left or right side (if you are looking at it from the front)?

The HDMI is mostly in the middle but it would be to the right a little more.

alright cool, that's what i was hoping that it was a bit to the right, the cable comes in from the right and it's not a very long cable..

If length is an issue, I'm sure you could find an extension on amazon or someplace similar.

You can always buy a longer HDMI cable for a couple bucks from monoprice.com or somewhere else cheap.

Yeah, i may have to do that but my main cable to my TV is long enough so that's not an issue, it's just my cable going to my 24" PC monitor which I sometimes use has only about 4 to 5 inches of play coming into the PS3 so not sure if it'll work or not. I really am hoping it will though so I won't have to and order yet another cable.

Re: Official PS3 Discussion Part III...

Guys, are there any must-have peripherals I need to pick up Wednesday night for the PS3? Do I need a charger kit for the controllers or whatever like the 360? Or does the PS3 have some way of charging my controller out of the box (do the controllers use regular batteries or what?)?

Also, anyone use the Madcatz remote control, the Bluwave? It's $9.99 on gamestop's site and I was thinking of saving a little money and getting that instead of the "official" PS3 one.

I just don't want to go to use everything Thursday after work and realize i'm missing xxxxxxx and have to go back out to Gamestop.

There isn't much I would recommend as "must haves" as far as peripherals go. A headset would be nice to have... you can get a bluetooth one for cheap online. I actually just use a USB condenser mic I bought to do podcasts and stuff, works great. The controller charge via an included USB cable, so you don't have to worry about that. A lot of people seem to recommend the remote, but I don't see what's wrong with using the controller when viewing Blu-Ray movies.

Personally, I shy away from Mad Catz or any other generic controllers. They seem to last a couple weeks until some part of them ends up breaking. That's just me, though.

Do you still have a 360? Just curious.

I need to get one of those USB headsets. I'm not a big fan of blue tooth headset although the official headset that is coming when Socom hits is nice.

Yeah I still have a 360 and def. am keeping it. I am really happy with my 360 honestly, just do worry a bit about it dying and all. I just spent the last hour converting all of my titles in my Blockbuster queue that I could find to Blu-Ray which is the main reason I want the PS3. It's kind of disappointing my favorite movies still aren't on Blu-Ray though - leaving las vegas, menace II society (hence my nick), the crow, saving private ryan to name a few.

One question about the headset, I still have my old PS2 one but I remember one thing I had issues with on my PS2 was the fact that i'm just a little hard of hearing and sometimes couldn't hear too well on that headset. It wasn't too bad depending upon the person but sometimes I really struggled to hear people. The 360 one I have is a full stereo 5.1 headset with volume control and it goes loud as hell, is there anything on the PS3 like that? Do the Bluetooth small headsets have a plenty loud enough volume?

I think i'll go without the remote at first and see how I like just using the controller.

I do believe I posted not too long ago in this forum on getting a PS3 and now heres my update.

I have GTA4, got Haze on sale (plus 10% off on price match) and the Show 08, picked up a DS3 so I have two controllers and am starting to get things rolling in, probably will be getting a headset and downloading Warhawk also soon.

I really am pleasantly surprised with the whole switch over from 360 to ps3, and thus far am not at all missing my constantly breaking 360. And the ease of roster exchanging and the awesomeness of the Show have me thinking I made a really good call.
