I think after more playtime, it's just the system "warming up." It seems to only make that noise for a few minutes then goes back to being quiet. Had it on for a good 4 hours yesterday (downloaded some demos and Office episodes) and could barely hear the console.

Re: Official PS3 Discussion Part III...
Anyone have any recommendations for a solid, good PS3 headset thats not too expensive, ie. less then 49.99. I used to have the official Sony one but sold it since I literally didnt use it once but find myself needing one again for an NCAA league Im in so Im looking to cut corners and save money if at all possible. Thanks in advance.Comment

Just check wiki for all the headsets that are compatible then look it up online
I was lucky one day someone posted a headset here for the PS3 that ended up costing us 0.00 after an instant discout if you used google checkout to buy something for the first time. Ended up getting a good working bluetooth headset for zero dollars that is compatible with my PS3
Seriously check online though, im sure you'll find your best deals there.Comment

Re: Official PS3 Discussion Part III...
After Nearly Four Years, The PS3 Finally Turns A Profit [Sony]
Thanks to new versions of the hardware and increased sales in the past twelve months, Sony's PlayStation 3 has finally become a profitable machine for the company. "This year is the first time that we are able to cover the cost of the PlayStation 3", Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida told IGN. "We aren't making huge money from hardware, but we aren't bleeding like we used to."
From the first day of the PS3's release in 2006 until only recently, every console Sony sold was in fact losing it money. Why? Sony were selling the PS3 for less than it cost to make one. It may sound crazy, but it's how Sony (and Microsoft) have done things for years, opting to sell expensive hardware at a loss while hoping to recoup the investment through software sales.
Well played, Sony. It's been a long, tough road. If you want reference on how long and tough it's been, Nintendo have been making a profit on every Wii sold since it launched in 2006.

PS3 Slim
I'm looking to buy a PS3 again. I can't keep missing out on the great PS3 exclusives anymore. I had an 80GB PS3 that I sold about a year and a half ago because I needed some fast cash, it was a hard decision, but I had to do it.
I'm just wondering, for those of you that have a PS3 slim, how are they?Comment
