Re: Official PS3 Discussion Part III...
I only have 1 game for the PS3, 2 demo's, and 1 movie trailer and my 40GB PS3 is already down to 25GB in HD space. When I first popped in The Show there was a long load time/install but besides that, I don't know why so much space has already disappeared from my HD.
Does each game take up a few GB's when you install it to the HD?Comment

For example DMC 4 takes up 5GB. Lost Planet takes up 5GB as well.
This is not all games, COD only took like 40MB. GTA will take 3.5GB I think.Comment

Re: Official PS3 Discussion Part III...
Yikes. I'm going to think twice about installing a game if it takes up a couple of gigs next time.Comment

Re: Official PS3 Discussion Part III...
Well, most are mandatory unfortunately. You can see on the back of the box how much the install is.
Once you install it though, you can always remove the data from the data folder. This will not affect your game saves.Comment

Re: Official PS3 Discussion Part III...
It's why I'm going to upgrade my HD if I go more PS3 than 360...I've got to look into whether 7200 rpm drives are really better than 5400 rpm drives for the PS3, I'd rather not spend a bundle but I'd like a size good enough to where there's no worry (and I could store some media on there too).Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

Re: Official PS3 Discussion Part III...
No reason to go with a 7200 rpm over a 5400 rpm. Just stick with th 5400 rpm since it won't have any effect on the PS3 itself. If anything, it might cause more heat. It's why I'm going to upgrade my HD if I go more PS3 than 360...I've got to look into whether 7200 rpm drives are really better than 5400 rpm drives for the PS3, I'd rather not spend a bundle but I'd like a size good enough to where there's no worry (and I could store some media on there too).Comment

Re: Official PS3 Discussion Part III...
Thanks for the heads up...I'm still a bit away from doing it, but a 200GB 5400 laptop drive isn't too crazy expensive...Gives you that piece of mind regarding installs.Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

Re: Official PS3 Discussion Part III...
I've been doing some research on this and the load times were indeed a little faster with the 7200rpm drive and the heat difference was negligible. Since I have the 2 year replacement plan even if it does blow up I'll just take it back.Comment

Re: Official PS3 Discussion Part III...
Yep.
Just look for some deals. Sometimes places like Newegg or Tiger Direct will post a cheap 250GB HDD for like $80 or something like that.
I still can't believe MS sells their 120GB HDD for $180. Crazy.Comment

Re: Official PS3 Discussion Part III...
How tough is it to swap your HDD on the PS3 anyways? I only have the 40GB so I might be inclined to upgrade at some point but I figured it was a giant pain to upgrade the HDD so Ive avoided it so far.Comment
