Trust me, it's not the cables. Stupid question but have you tried Google at all? That's how I came across the solution.

I know it definitely has something to do under Display Settings > Video Output Settings, I'm just trying to remember what it was.

Yeah I have tried Google, but I will continue to try and figure it out. Has to be something simple I am not doing even though I am following the instructions word for word.

Perhaps you got ahold of a PS3 with a bad HDMI port?

Yeah, I know exactly what you're going through right now. I was in full on panic mode because I'd just gotten my slim and thought something was effed up, but then I searched Google and came across an older page (from around 06 or 07) that had my fix.

I wish I could tell you exactly what it was, but I can't remember for whatever reason.

I think it has something to do with having the regular component cables plugged in, selecting a certain option from Video Output Settings (I think you put it on HDMI here, even though you don't have the cable in), then you plug in the HDMI and find the appropriate channel. You might want to try sitting on the channels for 30 seconds each though, because I know when you change those settings it tests it out for 30 seconds and sometimes that leads to a black screen. I'm just guessing here though, so this might not be the fix.

EDIT: Here's another possible fix if you haven't already tried it....

I ran across this problem when moving my Playstation 3 from my parents house to my house. I don't have an HD-TV(yet!!). So when I brough it over from my parents house (who have HDMI), to my TV (composite connection), the TV would just be blank.
This was because I had set the PS3 to output HDMI at my parents house, but forgotten to switch it to composite before bring it over to my house. So driving blind, I would never be able to find the menu to reset it.
By Sony had already though of this problem and there is an easy solution:
          • Make sure the system is off.
          • Hold down the Power Button for 5-6 seconds - until you hear the second beep.
          • That's it, your video settings are reset and you should be able to choose your input and configure it from there.

Holy crap!!! Right when I was going to give up, I disconnected everything from my tv and unplugged it for about ten minutes. I unplugged my PS3 as well for the same time. Hooked everything back together and it works for some reason. Weird lol, thanks for the help that I was given, I appreciate it.

Nice. Glad to see things worked out.

Sooo, because of the PSN attack I decided to grab a USB drive so I can actually download some rosters, but before I open it I just want to make sure if this is a good enough drive to use for that type of thing (as well as downloading sound packs, etc):

                  It's a 4GB. I'm assuming that should be enough?

Should work fine. I've had a 1GB for awhile now and it's more than enough.

Heh, I've been using old microsd cards with usb readers, I don't think the PS3 is too picky.

I'm having an issue with my PS3 maybe someone can help with. All of a sudden when I try to eject any sort of disc (game, blu-ray, DVD) it will eject it about half way and then immediately suck it back in. This results in me having to grab it and manually pull it out every time, which is scratching the discs. Anyone have any suggestions?

                          Thanks

Sounds hardware specific. The only thing I can think of is a hard reset and hope it corrects itself. A quick google search shows there is some conversation about this but I can't check any of them out cause I'm at work.

Hey guys I think I changed some setting or something because my system won't work on a standard def TV. When I have it on an HDTV, I use the HDMI cable(of course), but when I use the A/V components along with an SDTV, they don't work. Any suggestions?

With it off (red light) hold power button until it beeps again (5 seconds).
