Thank goodness it is lighter... it was frustrating having to lift that extra 0.9 pounds out of the box and on to my entertainment center a grand total of one time.

The lighter weight added up saves console manufacturers millions on shipping costs in the long run.

That is why they do it.

Haha, I know. I was just saying that's not something most consumers are going to get excited about.

It just wasn't a funny joke. Sony should just not do any minor hardware revisions because the changes aren't appreciable by you? It's not like Sony spent 15 minutes expunging about it at E3, all they did was update the Japanese website with the soon to be current model.

Relax, homie. Obviously it's beneficial to Sony, but to the consumer who already owns a PS3 (this is what he was referring to) it is not something to get excited about.

                  Exactly.

Sony should always be trying to improve hardware to reduce cost, improve reliability, etc. It's just not something that most users are going to get excited about.

Do electronics/gaming stores still sell the older large PS3s? I'm finally taking the plunge and getting a PS3 but wasn't sure which type to get.

I would just go with a slim over the fatty ps3.

As George stated, definitely go with the Slim if you can.

Personally, I like the look of the fatty better, but the slim is much more reliable.

The thing about the Fatty I liked was the 4 usb ports. I know you can get an adapter for the slim (I have one) but I liked it all on one PS3 with no extra gadgets needed.

I also missed the SD and compact flash ports on the old 60 gb fatty... The XMB had some great HD camcorder file compatibility... But at this point I think reliability trumps whatever optional features that the ps3 used to have.

Agreed, the slim is pretty ugly IMO.

But I do appreciate its inner beauty in that it doesn't overheat and give me the YLOD.
