    PS3 AND 1080P

Is there a difference in 1080P and 1080i or 720p when watching blu ray movies, and playing games?

I know games arent made in 1080p but is it even worth the extra cash or are there enough benefits to even bother?

If the TV is under 50", 1080P really makes little to no difference.

Many games are actually in 1080P, at least on the 360 anyway, so I'm sure it's the same on the PS3.

What's the difference with the 50+ inch tv's?

I didn't really want one over 42 inches but how about the movies though?

Is there much of a difference there?

You just notice the 1080p because the screen's bigger....keeps it looking high quality even if you have a large screen. Under 50" you won't really notice a difference because the smaller screens handle the smaller sizes just fine.

Do any of you guys have a 1080p tv?

I was looking at a nice 32 in Sony KDL32M3000 and a nice 42 in Toshiba 42HL67 although not 1080p.

I pretty much want to use it for a gaming (me/kids) and movie(me/wife) tv for the PS3.

I see what you mean about the size. The larger tv's doesn't make the picture look grainy and lower res and over stretched because of the size .

While it's not a HUGE difference, if I look closely I can see fewer jaggies in 1080p even on my 19'' HDTV. I have to be very close to the screen though (which is fine because I usually am anyway).

You can only run 1080p through HDMI right? Doesn't matter for me really since my 32" doesn't scale that high but I'd like to get a bigger HDTV for the basement eventually.

Here is a site vs. size graph to help figure out when you can truly appreciate 1080p. It mainly beneficial to large TVs.

I already had the Sony PS3 Blu-ray Remote but I was disappointed that I couldn't make my Harmony remote learn its commands because the Sony remote worked through Bluetooth. But then Nyko released its Blu Wave remote which will let you learn the commands with a Harmony remote because it uses IR through a USB receiver that plugs into the PS3.

Anyway, I just wanted to say that the Blu Wave remotes works great. Actually I haven't even used the Blu Wave remote except to learn its commands in my Harmony remote. Now I can control all my video, DVD, and Blu-ray viewing on my PS3 through my single Harmony remote, thank goodness! It probably took me a little over half an hour to get all the commands learned on my Harmony from the Nyko remote, and I had to lower the sensitivity of the Harmony's control over the PS3 because it flew through the PS3 menus, but now it is all set up and works like a champ.

There are only two drawbacks with the Nyko/Harmony remote for operating the PS3. The biggest is that you can't turn the system on from the remote like you can with the PS3 controller or the Sony remote. It's not that big of a deal because when you insert a disc into the PS3 (like a Blu-ray) the system automatically turns on and your remote is ready to go. The problem is that I keep forgetting to turn the PS3 back off when I'm done because I'm so used to the Harmony remote shutting all devices off when I hit the off button. The other drawback which isn't a big deal at all is that the Nyko remote only has the basic DVD playback functions on it, so they are the only ones my Harmony remote could learn. But all the necessities are there like play, pause, stop, chapter skip, scanning, menu, even the triangle, circle, etc buttons are there. What buttons the Sony remote has that the Nyko doesn't are ones like subtitles, etc, buttons that you really don't need when watching under normal circumstances.

All in all, I'm real happy I bought the $14 Blu Wave remote and I'll probably try to ebay the Sony one now that I have no use for it. Luckily I have one of the PS3 models that has 4 USB ports on the front, so leaving the USB receiver plugged in all the time isn't an issue, I don't know if that is a problem with the 40GB's that only have 2. I definitely think it's worth the purchase if you have a programmable remote that will learn the Nyko commands so you can keep your movie watching to just one remote again.
Amazon still has it for 14 bucks...I just ordered one, didn't want to miss out on the cheap price and no retailers near me have it.

Thanks again for the review, will be nice to use the remote for everything except power.

I just figured out that, that 42in Toshiba can show 1080p, so i'll probably go with that one.

I have a Sony 55a2000 55" 1080p. You can get one now for $1500 I believe. I paid almost $2500 for mine when it came out 1 1/2 years ago. I would go 1080p if you are buying a tv too.

Yeah but I do want to go 1080p, but that sounds cheap for a tv that size and for a Sony at that.

I don't know how accurate that chart is. It was posted in the OS HDTV thread at one time and I copied that to my computer since it looked pretty good. I think those viewing charts are a little too fussy imo. They always want you to sit closer than I think you have to.

it's last years model. They have the a3000 series out now. NOt sure of the difference. But TV's are like computers. when a new model comes out they slash the price of the older ones.

Jpup has the same tv as mine. FootballForever has the 50" version.
