I just purchased a PS3 and am having a horrible time getting it to display through an HDMI cable to my DLP (Samsung HLP4663). Basically after the initial setup when it states it detected an HDMI cable and wants to know if I want to run audio through that, I select no and then it goes black.

I used the composite cables that came with the PS3 so I could see what I was doing and to get past that section and download the latest firmware update in hopes that this would fix the problem. Nope, still shows the same problem. I'm at a loss.

Any suggestions?

No, but I did finally get it to work after messing around for about 45 minutes with it.

Basically I had to go into the display settings, tell it I wanted to use HDMI and make sure only 480p and 720p were selected. I guess the initial setup has some issues...or I'm the one with issues.

mjb, if you hold on the power button till the system makes 3 beeps it will do a reset on the system initializing whichever cables you are using.

very strange. At least it's working. Setting up my ps3 was a biatch, especially for the wireless connection.

No, but already? Most people still don't even have HDTVs, and the ones that are out are already out of date?

no... far from out of date, just simply that there's always someone out there developing the next technology while we enjoy the current technology. In fact, I know I've read some report of some group using an even larger resolution than 1440p... everyone just wants to be the one to take it to that level.

As well, the current application for 1440p I believe is for most movie theaters but I could be mistaken on that.

Yeah but I do want to go 1080p, but that sounds cheap for a tv that size and for a Sony at that.

Like Heelfan said, I have the 55" and it's an amazing TV IMO. Just make sure you buy the 4 year warranty if you get it from best buy. You will have to replace the bulb and it covers that. I gave 2399 + bought the warranty. If you could get it for 1500, it would be a steal. For that money, I might have to invest in another one.

Actually, all you have to do is select YES. Once you're done, go into settings, audio, and select whatever audio connection you want the PS3 to output to.

I did the same thing as well and it gave me the black screen. Then I just decided to do that one and go through the initial setup until I could manually change the audio settings.

I did try that figuring I could change the audio settings later, but it didn't work either. It works now though so I'm happy...even if I'm not 100% sure how I did it.

I heard the PS3 setup was a pain but mine was painless. I used the component HD cables and optical audio and everything was fine. The thing automatically detected my WIFI and I was surprised how easy it was. I didn't even have to enter my userid or anything.
