Re: Official PS3 Discussion Part III...

Looks like EA is coming to the realization that they might need to lead on the PS3 for future games.

EA “Not Quite” Over PS3 Hurdles

When asked by an analyst if PS3 game development has yet caught up with the Xbox 360’s faster development cycle, EA CEO John Riccitiello said, “Not quite. There’s no doubt that Electronic Arts, along with many other publishers, had some challenges essentially meeting the technical specifications effectively on the PlayStation 3.

“Games where we led development on the PS3 platform, like Burnout, which is doing very well on the market today, we had no issue at all.

“But in circumstances where we either led with the Xbox 360 or ran parallel production, for the most part, we’re still experiencing some delay on the PS3. It’s a little bit more of a challenging development environment for us.

“It’s probably only a third of a problem for us as it was [nine months ago]. But there still remains some catching up to do on the engineering side for the PS3.”

As Riccitiello noted, other publishers and developers have had challenges with PS3 development when creating cross-platform titles. Rockstar recently admitted that hurdles with the development of the PS3 version of Grand Theft Auto IV was a "contributing" factor in the game's delay from 2007 to early 2008. Recently THQ also cancelled the PS3 version of Frontlines: Fuel of War, which is still slated for Xbox 360 and PC.

EA Sports also caught flack in 2007 when the PS3 version of Madden NFL 08 ran at only half the frames per second as its Xbox 360 counterpart.

Burnout ended up great on both systems. If it takes doing on the PS3 first and then the 360, do it so PS3 owners don't get the shaft. Especially since the Xbox didn't suffer from being ported over to.

I tried it with R&C last night and got the 1080p resolution, so thanks for the tip! I'm not sure if I will keep it that way though since I have a few games that default back to 480p if 720p isn't selected. I don't like forgetting to set it back before I play those games and having to go through all the load menus again.

That's a good deal. If one was to upgrade their PS3's HDD, how does it work with getting all your DLC on the new drive? Can you just back all that stuff up on a flash drive along with your game saves?

it just comes down to money. If the ps3 keeps selling and chipping away at the 360 market share, then it would be justified for more companies to move development over to the ps3 to benefit both.

I could see many companies continue to give the ps3 the xbox treatment though. The ps2 was less powerful, but developers still made games for it and ported over to the xbox, because it had far fewer users. Last I looked, it sold 24 million in 5 years.

Yes, as long as your flash drive has enough memory you can just back it up and you're good to go.

I guess if I forgot and didn't get everything, I could always through the 60gb back in and grab what I forgot. Thanks.

you don't have to select the 720p option to play the non-1080p games... it will play in the 720p mode even if you have only 1080p selected..... you just want your 1080p game to play in that top shelf mode....

I meant for games like Burnout which went down to 480p when I had deselected all but 1080p. When I deselected 720p and only had 1080p selected, that game played at 480p.

I am confused. Did you only select 480p and 1080p ?

yeah, that was the only way to get Ratchet and Clank to display in 1080p. But then Burnout Paradise displays in 480p which isn't good. If I have 720p and 1080p selected, Burnout plays at 720p again but so does Ratchet

That happened to me on smackdown vs raw. I only had 480p and 1080i chosen and it showed in it 480p.
