I just did the auto detect and it came up with 1080p as my resolution. I have no idea what is checked though. I thought all of them. Will have to double check when I get home.

Mine did the same, auto detected 1080P.

I thought the problem is if you tv didn't support a certain resolution? Can't remember.

Are you talking about your PS3 menu or in a game?

My PS3 menu is always 1080p, even crappy videos that I watch on my PS3 are upscaled to 1080p. It's just certain games I guess like Ratchet and Clank that play at 720p even though I have 1080p enabled. According to xrams, I deselect 720p and that game plays at 1080p, and that is in fact what happened. But by deselecting 720p, it appears some games like Burnout (and other EA games according to xrams) don't get upscaled to 1080p but instead drop down to 480p. It's confusing and I have no idea why it is this way.

I asked at the Sony forums why it was this way and this is what they are saying: http://boardsus.playstation.com/play...9985&jump=true

My TV supports the full range of resolutions, 480p through 1080p. I had my display setting on auto detect as well until I went in and unselected some to test this thing out.

Here's the deal:

The PS3 does not upscale games. It will play it in the format that the game was coded in. It's not like the 360 where the game will play in your highest resolution.

Basically, if you have all the modes checked and your TV supports it, it will play in the highest mode possible (I believe). It may play at the optimal resolution.

Like I said a couple of pages back, the 360 is better in this sense.

Any word on when the Dual Shock 3 will be packaged in? I'm ready to get my PS3 but I would rather have the new controller.

Got you. You should just leave everything your tv supports checked then. I have everything checked.

According to the Sony forum guys, Ratchet and Clank has a native resolution of 720p, so the PS3 must play games at their native resolution rather than the highest your TV supports. But for some reason, some games like Ratchet will upscale to 1080p when 720p is deselected where some games like Burnout won't when 720p is deselected. Strange stuff.

That's probably what I'll do. It'll make Ratchet play in 720p, but at least the other games like Burnout (and probably my other EA games like Rock Band and NCAA) will still display in 720p.

Yeah, that's what I meant about "optimal" resolution. The game has to support upscaling and some don't. I know NBA Live did not... it does the same thing Burnout does as you say....

It could be an EA thing.

a few months at least. I got one off ebay for $59, and it's amazingly better than the sixaxis toy controller. It was really only $10 more than it will be when it comes out, so the price was ok for me..
