A thread on the Game Trailers' forum claims to have the details on what we can expect from the next PS3 firmware drop.

Nothing's been confirmed by Sony and we'll ask for a 'no comment' when people turn up for work. All this info comes from a source who is said to work "in an R&D department at Sony". Stranger things have happened...

Friends List:
- Voice Messaging is now available as an alternative to text after selecting a user on the friends list. Voice message recordings are capped at 30 seconds.
- Home Integration: Saved PlayStation Home avatar photos can be selected as photo ID for Gamer Card/Friends List.
- Trophy number and Gamer Level are listed under Friend names for quick reference.

Gamer Card & Trophies:
- Gamer Card layout has been changed to more closely resemble the PlayStation Store aesthetic.
- Past Trophy information can be viewed in detail by selecting "Recent Trophy History" option.
- Newly acquired trophies auto-sync in the background
- Server infrastructure for Trophies has been optimized. Resulting in faster retrieval time for Gamer Card and Trophy information.

In-Game XMB:
- Loading time for In-Game XMB has been drastically reduced, resulting in a more seamless in-game experience.
- "Theme settings" options while in-game is now available, allowing custom themes to be applied to the In-Game XMB.
- Internet Browser can now be accessed while in-game.
- Voice messaging and voice chat options can be used while in-game.
- Options that cannot be used in the XMB during game sessions are grayed out (but still selectable) to eliminate user accessibility confusion.

That really stinks. I was reading elsewhere that Resistance 2 has an update today that needs some of the 2.70 features.

Insomiac developers stated 2.70 is not needed for this patch.

those are my favorite features. especially being able to surf the net while in game. really hope this is really in the update.

Hey fellas, I did a search for the problem I'm having with my PS3 and haven't found a solution... I got a black screen when trying to play Resident Evil 5 and after cutting the system off I cut it back on but my game freezes after selecting myself as the user most of the time, other times it goes to the XMB but it does not read the disc (any disc) that I put into the system... then when I shutdown via the controller and I get a flashing green light and then the system beeps... I did the restore hard drive and it still does not work... I called SONY and was supposed to receive an email to get it sent in for service on Sunday and was supposed to get the email within 24 hours... but something tells me that the customer service/technical support rep put my email address in wrong... right now I have my cousins 20gb ps3 but it is nothing compared to my original 60gb one and I'm getting frustrated a little... I'm thinking my only solution is to go to playstation.com and redo my service request instead of via phone... kinda sucks that I have to cough up $149 but I guess its better than buying a new system... are the 80gb and 120gb PS3's backwards-compatible for PS2 games in any way, shape or form? because I'm thinking about getting one towards the end of the year after the rumored price drop happens in case this 60gb doesn't stand the test of time whenever I finally get it serviced... are there any other solutions to this issue outside of sending it for service?

I'mma prob hook my 60 back up this weekend and give it another go and see if it magically corrects itself... guess I should've talked **** to my brother about his 360 getting hit wit RRoD cause I heard nothing of the PS3 issue until it got me

looking forward to replies... hope this wasn't too long winded and I got my issue across... if there's a thread on this or a site I can go to please point me in that direction... greatly appreciated and much thanks... because I need to play my MLB 09 The Show

Is there a site like for Xbox live where you can go online and add friends or you have to do it on the system?

You have to do it from the system. But you can go to the official PS3 site and view your friends list and see who is online and what they are playing.

no current SKU's are backwards compatable. only the 60, 20, and the original 80gb (not the current one) were BC.

your best bet is to send in ur ps3 for repairs to sony and IN MOST CASES, they send u back a refurbished 60gb ps3. a few people have have recieved 80gb instead though.

I'm going to do another request today since I never got my email... I'm still prob gonna get a 120 and put it in the living room for a human vs. human system/blu ray player and I'll in all likelihood get a 2.5 SATA Laptop hard drive to put in the system that I get back... plus its the easiest way to get Uncharted until they add it to greatest hits, too bad the Pain voucher won't be good by the time I get it... appreciate ya help man thanks

I was just sitting back, playing college hoops when all of a suden my PS3 cut off. I'm trying to turn it back on but it isn't happening right now. Does anyone have any experience with this situation?
