Re: Sony: By 2018, 90% Of Games Will Be Downloaded

I download a lot but I'm not looking forward to downloading games. Like Altimus, I like having the physical copy, especially since games cost so much I don't want to risk having a problem with my hard drive and having $60(or however much games are going to cost later) disappear.

im the same way. I prefer things that are somewhat tangible

I think im in the minority but I would rather buy a CD from a store or show than download something to my Ipod.

        lol na man. No way.

I know your exaggerating, but it's not possible for it to get that high. I would bet that somewhere around $6 or $7 bucks would be the ceiling (but it certainly wont be low again)

....but coffee, that might be a different story. We might see $18 dollar lattes

Same here. I never download anything. I like my tangible copies!

            What do you guys think?

Personally I don't like downloading software. I like to have a hard copy of everything. That is why I bought Warhawk at store and will buy GT Prologue in store as well instead of downloading it.
Personally I hate the idea TOTALLY.

I too like to have a hard copy. If/when it ever gets to that you are talking about huge HD space required and the possibility of HD failures. Then it's a mess calling etc to get a "replacement" download. Then will everything be locked to individual systems. If so and I buy a second system I can't install it on my second system?

Lots more questions than answers right now.......

              No way will this happen.

How would the stores like EBgames and Gamestop function?

Wouldn't trading games and bringing games over to friends' houses be all but eliminated?

What happens when my ps3 or 360 goes AWOL and I'm left with all my games on a broken machine?

I don't even know how this would be convienent.

most everything will be downloaded IMO. Games and Movies, just like music is now. Will be nice not have to deal with Gamestop employees.

2018 is a LONG way away. By then a game download could take 5 minutes to a terabyte sized HDD.

The physical copy is pretty moot. I'd assume it would be on a STEAM like system where it registers everything you own online and you can redownload onto any computer/system anywhere.

If someone told you in 1998 that in 10 years, the vast majority of music will be obtained by downloading it for free, it's unlikely that you would believe them.

                      Exactly.

If you go back a decade and tell someone they are going to have a device, not much bigger than pack of baseball cards with 3000-5000 songs on it....they wouldn't have believed you.

I get why people are saying they want a hard copy, but people can and will change.

I probably won't be playing games in 2018.

Same reason I buy CDs in stores instead of on iTunes... sometimes I like to be able to display my purchased items.

That said, I'm not for this. I always feel like a giddy schoolboy again when I go to the store and see the front and back still in the wrapper, then as I open it 15 minutes later and pop it in for the first time.

Downloading wouldn't give me such an experience.

How would taking games over to a friend's house and playing work?

You're not going to take an entire console over right? And putting it on a memory device wouldn't work because then you could copy games pretty easily.
