Also make sure your PS3 settings have all the resolutions checked off that your TV supports so your TV changes resolutions to what's appropriate depending on what game you play (my TV plays MGS4 in 1080p, Uncharted in 720p, Little big Planet in 720p, Ratchet & Clank in 720p, SSFIIHD Remix in 1080p, etc)

I don't think the scaler in the PS3 is all that great, I've tried uncharted in 1080p and the screen tearing was unbearable

on automatic the ps3 always chooses 720p. the only time it doesnt is when im playing a blu-ray movie. i have to force it to play some games in 1080p

that's odd.. Maybe it's because I don't have it set to automatic? I manually have 1080p, 1080i, 720p, & 480p checked off and it flips through the resolutions just fine depending on the game... 1080p games play in 1080p (like MGS4 and even the XMB) and 720p games play in 720p (uncharted, LBP, R&C:FToD, etc)

It selects the native resolution. So even if a game supports 1080p if it's not native it goes to 720p and then you'll have to force it.

I think if I keep it on automatic (my tv supports all resolutions) than it will adjust to each game respectively.

Well I just tried updating the software on my tv, and it says, "Same version. Please check it and retry." So I'm assuming my tv already has firmware 1006.1?

Well I did those calibrations and I have to say CoD5 looks a lot better...that's the only game I've tried, but so far I'm impressed with what I've seen.

if you own it, try Uncharted... that's another game that benefited A LOT by these settings.

2k9 was the only game that looked blah on my TV set.

Uncharted, FIFA, R2, MGS4, Heavenly Sword, SSF2THD... just to name a few. Gorgeous.
