I hear the processes for repairing it yourself are pretty painless but because I'm not very tech savvy I payed the 149.00 (163.75) after taxes. It's a bit much yes, but I'll be glad to get a good working one back. Hopefully this is the last time I have to deal with this.

Yeah, I understand where you are coming from. I just don't get the $150 repair cost, considering it is a common faulty issue with the system getting YLOD.Comment

Re: PS3 Repair and/or Death Thread
I had to send my 60GB in for repair back in March. I've had no problems since. It was out of warranty so I did have to pay the $150. I believe the drive was broken because it wasn't reading any movies, games, or CDs. I did get the same unit back so all my Rock Band files were still on it.NOW PLAYING: Battlefield 3, MLB 12 The Show

Re: PS3 Repair and/or Death Thread
My blue-ray drive stopped working for about 10 minutes last week so I shut the power off and started back up. Tried again and it wouldn't read a game so I popped in a regular DVD and that worked fine. So I popped in 09 The Show again and it read it and played fine after that. We'll see what happens.
EDIT: Nevermind, I bought a new laser off ebay and am going to fix it myself.Last edited by Bamafan3723; 08-16-2009, 03:51 PM."The best thing about being a football player at Alabama...winning...winning." -Mark Barron

Let us know how that goes. I'm curious to know the complexity.Originally posted by Anthony BourdainThe celebrity chef culture is a remarkable and admittedly annoying phenomenon. Re: PS3 Repair and/or Death Thread
were you sure the laser died though? There's other parts that can fail that produce the same symptoms. You have to open it up and see if the laser is out.Comment

Re: PS3 Repair and/or Death Thread
I've been having problems with LBP since I got it from Goozex about two weeks ago. The game will lock up within the first few minutes of gameplay every time and not always at the same point. I'm also having a few lockups in other games but they seem more random, however NCAA10 which I play a lot has no issues at all. I tested LBP in another system and it works fine which obviously tells me it's a problem with my PS3 (a launch 20GB).
The moral of the story is that now that the PS3 has dropped to $299, I'm going to rip open my machine and see if I can figure out whats going on. I'm hoping it's simply a matter of dust collected inside or something simple like that. While I'm sure I could, I really don't want to mess with replacing a Blu-Ray drive or something like that.
Anyway, I'll post my findings sometime in the next week or so... hopefully it won't be laced with expletives.Comment
