Re: PS3 Repair and/or Death Thread

I have an original 60GB from the first Christmas they were released. My games started freezing over the weekend, and by last night it wasn't reading any of them. I'm assuming it's time for an upgrade. Anyone know if there's a fix for my problems?

That sounds like a failed Blu-ray drive. You can get it replaced.

How do I go about this? Is it going to cost me $150 or something crazy like that? Thanks.

Yes, and it's annoying that they charge such a crazy amount. You have to do it through http://us.playstation.com/support/ and enter the correct information. Then someday they'll ship you a box to put your console in.

It looks like I'll have to send my refurb in, which I just got in mid-February. I heard the machine gun sound once when ejecting a disc that was the same sound I had when I couldn't eject discs on my old PS3, plus the Power Save option doesn't work for the two, three, or five hour settings on this thing. It's still under the 90 day warranty, so I'm going to go for it.

Blzer, get it repaired and sell. Put the money towards a slim, just not worth playing around with refurb after refurb.

I will if in fact this rumor about removing other operating systems on the machine is true. I crave Linux on the fatty, but if the new update is omitting that feature then I might as well bite the bullet.

You should ditch the bitch............LOL! I sold off the fatty earlier in the month and picked up a slim, I have not regretted it once. My only complaint is that since it is quite compact and after the system is turned off you do hear the plastic casing retracting after expanding. It is not a big deal at all. Plus there is a lot less heat from the console which is great. I wish they came out with a USB port that attached to the front adding additional ports without a USB cable.

Oh I mean don't get me wrong, I love the Slim. I'm looking at one right now, we have one at home and I use it here. I'm just saying that I like to have my own fatty as well when it comes to using Linux on it.

I bought something like this at big lots for like 10 bucks for that. It works perfectly. That way we can still play 8 player buzz games and still have the PSeye plugged for the pictures. Also can play RB2 with everyone.

The one on my PC is powered but the one I use for the PS3 is not. It runs off the ps3 itself. The powered one I got for around 30.00 but the little one for the PS3 was like 9.99.

There's probably someone that fixes them locally and cheaper. Though you'll have to pay for a new Blu-ray drive anyway, not sure how much that is.
