Re: PS3 Repair and/or Death Thread

Is there something specific that's causing the PS3 issues? Curious b/c I've been saving up for a PS3 but man, I don't want to go down the same road I have with my 360.

It's just overheating and you shouldn't need to worry as the PS3 Slim doesn't get as hot. It's something that affects the older units. Just wear and tear from too much heat that eventually craps it out after 2 or 3 years. My PS3 is a 60GB and it's three years old and it hasn't happened yet. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Thanks, Rudy. Hope your PS3 keeps on chuggin'

My 360 did well for 3 years and now, in the last year, I've gone through 3 consoles Finally, Microsoft sent me a new console the last time and things have gone well (knocking on wood) since then.

Do the external fans really work on the PS3?

I've never been a believer in them. If you're really afraid of cooling problems, even though the ps3 is far superior at doing it than the 360, then just leave it out in the open with a box fan blowing on it.

Either I'm missing something about the Red Screen of Death, or ebay bidders are. $200 seems a lot to pay for something clearly listed as broken. I was only expecting like maybe $100.
Did you include anything else besides the system? can I see your listing? I'm asking because I'm about to sell my ps3 on ebay. My ps3 works for about 5 minutes then the lens stops reading and it freezes. I was going to take it to gamestop, but I'm sure they run it for a while to make sure it works.

just the cables and HDD, not even a controller. I'm assuming it's someone who can't read, and thinks it's in proper working condition. It should be going for around $100 including shipping. I'll clearly remind them again after it ends, and they'll back out. I lose 3 days, fees, and a sale to a legit buyer.

The bid was made with almost 2 days left, so it's not like it's some last second sniper who couldn't take time to read the description. I've yet to receive a single question about the console as well.

My PS3 Slim just overheated. Best Buy is going to let me swap it out. What do I do as far as my saves? Im sure they are not going to let me keep my HD. Is there anyway to keep my saves??? I only have a 4gig flashdrive

If it still turns on at all (like for a few minutes before it goes out again) you could use the flash drive and move them onto that.

Even if you kept your HD you wouldn't get to keep your saves because it would have to format again on the new system.

Thanks, I'm on it right now and so far so good. I really don't want to lose my saves

yeah just transfer all your saves to the flash drive (or at least the important ones)

anything from the playstation store can be re-downloaded.

Man there are no flashers... now what are we going to do for vd
I'm sure there's plenty of prostitutes you could pay if you really want vd.
yea but will they take psn cards
Depends on what area of a hooker you would use to redeem them.

                          lol

I already unhooked everything. The 2nd time the overheating message came up the ps3 shut down within 45 seconds. Just can't understand how unreliable these Next Gen systems are

I'm expecting my PS3 back on the 27th. That was much faster than I had hoped!

EDIT: Fail, they're actually shipping it on the 27th.
