Micro Center had some 40 inch refurbs for 350 too. Those vizio's are decent TV's. OP needs to do some shopping. Remember this, once you get something in your house, you're going to want it bigger, don't settle for a 30 something. If you shop around you'll find a decent 46 for not too much money.

Understandable.
Just depends on what you want. It appears you can go 42 inches on a 1080p LCD or 720p plasma for the same price. Would it be in a room that has a lot of light? If so, a LCD would be more ideal. If you're gaming you should probably lean LCD as well.Comment

I do have a lot of light so LCD seems better because of that and because it seems to be the better choice for gaming...
Is there a big difference between 720p and 1080p?
If I go 42", I think I'll have to go wall mount, which is fine, but will create quite the project around here...

1080p has a much better resolution. Which means you can sit much closer to the screen before you start noticing pixels. If both are the same price, you almost always go with the higher resolution if everything else is equal.I do have a lot of light so LCD seems better because of that and because it seems to be the better choice for gaming...

I much prefer a plasma, but reading on your situation I'd be hard pressed to recommend a 720p plasma if you can get solid 1080p LCD for the same price. (And you can hardcore game on it from day 1...no break in time needed)
Of course, if you were comaring a 1080p plasma to a 1080p LCD it would be a totally different story.

Re: PS3 / TV?
Well, after taking everything in account, I decided to go with this:
It's a little smaller than reccomended, but it's 5 inched bigger than the one I've been looking at forever and will fill up my living room nicely enough...
And you got to admit, at $399.00 (with free shipping) it's a killer price...Comment

Solid choice. My 32 inch Vizio performed quite well until it got stolen 2 weeks ago.Comment

Thanks!
I just read your thread about the robbery...sorry to hear that happend...hopefully your renters insurance will help you replace the things you lost...
My GF (at the time) and I had our car popped in Memphis and lost 10k worth of stuff between us...
We worked our butts off on our claim and after a long, frustrating process, got a check for that for 'replacement' value...
Very weird feeling that leaves you with tho...
I feel your frustration with the police reaction...it IS pretty much a long shot. t In my case I could even point out where they just bought gas and got cash off my credit card at a liquor store (two indentical charges for $!,324.68, charged minutes apart)...we even called one of the stolen phones and THEY PICKED UP...but the police couldn't / wouldn't follow those leads...
Anyway thanks to you and y'all for your generous advice on my TV purcahse...
Good luck with your situation...Last edited by KingV2k3; 08-16-2009, 08:12 PM.Comment
