    Re: E3 2010: Microsoft Conference

I play basketball games all year round. From launch to launch. Looking at the IGN preview of natal and the PS3 stick for shooting free throws makes me want to laugh. The guy just does a shooting motion. I really don't see how this translates accurately to a video game. Seems like a useless gimmick to me that I nor majority of the basketball gamers will use.

Remember, the PS3 had this in the 2K series since launch. The same exact thing. It died quickly and no one mentioned it ever again.

I agree with this, but I think creative people need to be behind it in order for it to be appealing. The slow thinker will get a chuckle out of the free-throw shooting and drop the money for it. However, I'm sure MS will go far deeper than that...and Sony too.

I think though that in the end the motion theme will always be secondary to the controller and I'm sure MS and Sony are aware of that.
Being kind, one to another, never disappoints.

I was just stating that for people who do complain about that, my console is just fine....lol

And I know one of my previous elites and my launch console PRO both RROD and the fixed for free!

I'm happy with how they handled things, but Natal is crap...

LOL. Agreed. I've been rocking with a controller for 20+ years and I intend to keep it that way.

Natal will be a peripheral to the successful Xbox 360 platform. It's not a "this is going to replace what you know and love" type maneuver. This is clearly an attempt to add another layer to what gaming is for the 360. In no way is it what 3D type maps did for gaming or even how online has impacted how the games are played.
Plus you can use your controller with Natal so it's not like every Natal game would only use your movements as the input device.

I think both Natal and The Move are going to be DUDS. They are not going to be selling systems due to either one, this is a Wii thing and should have just remained. I think both will not do well IMHO.

Thats why I think that Natal has cool potential. I can still be using a controller, and have extra features to a game via natal at the same time, without hampering or changing how I use the controller.

                  That's what I think.

If people want a Wii, they'll get a Wii. They aren't going to pay more for the 360 and then another hundred or two for something they could get for less than the 360 by itself.

                    EDGE: Natal To Cost $149

Natal will launch in the US this October with a price tag of $149.

That’s according to a trusted source, who told us that the motion sensing camera will also be bundled with the Xbox 360 Arcade console for $299.
Our source said that the device has been pencilled in for an October 26 worldwide launch, although we were advised that the date could yet shift by a few weeks either way.

We were also told Microsoft’s camera definitely won’t be called Natal and that its proper title will be revealed at E3 next month. It will also be heavily targeted at causal players and families.

“Microsoft expects to sell millions and millions of Natal units in its first year on the market so you can expect the software launch line-up to target non-traditional gamers,” our source said. “A major marketing campaign will also play a key role in attracting and educating the expanded audience about Xbox 360’s controller-free revolution.”

If Nintendo cuts the Wii to $149 at E3 (which I doubt), this thing won't look as attractive.

$299 arcade bundle? $150 casual add on? Good luck with that MS.

I am highly doubtful this is right though. It simply can't be.

We'll see. Same source called the Gears 3 stuff and was right on the money. They may have had to put the processor back in due to it being not as responsive through software or developers not being happy about taking away CPU power. Either way, they need to eat the costs. Natal won't be nearly as successful as they hope it will at that rumored price.

So the average gamer will just pick up the normal system at $200 or $250.

The consumer looking for motion will go with the Wii for the lower price point. At $249.99 it would have been attractive to the user in that criteria. At $50 more than the Wii, it's not.

I think there's a fair chance that the Wii could be available for $149 by the end of the year too. Nintendo knows that Natal and Move are coming, which keeps those consoles from dropping price. Nintendo also has had years to put out quality titles that sell, while Move and Natal will probably have nothing more than minigames and tech demos initially.

More importantly, it costs almost as much as a Wii...
