All signs point to this being a digital only device, so... I wonder if we can still play our PSPgo games as well.

I would think it would be BC with those, but who knows since its Sony.

Sony will unveil a new version of its handheld game console PlayStation Portable on January 27, as well as a gaming-oriented smartphone in February, Bloomberg reports citing two people with knowledge of the company’s plans.

Rumors of Sony working on a combination of a portable gaming device and a smartphone surfaced early last year, but the details about the device were very scarce, and they still are.

the 3ds is expensive IMO, and if the PSP2 can be like 199.99 and have a better battery life it could be sick and a seller..... seems like its going to be a beast graphcially

I agree. No way a hand held game is worth that much.

Eh... If the PSP is 249 or even 299 and is really as powerful as rumored, I'm in. Nothing wrong with that price point for new tech. Pretty standard IMO. If it's too much for some, just wait a bit until it drops. Not really a big deal.

(not saying I agree with handheld pricing, but look what Apple charges for iPods with less features)

ur on. it will bomb like the pspGO at that price point.

thats different though. the psp has been doing terrible in sales for a while. they released the pspGO at 250. that bombed. why go through the same thing again. it would just be stupid. you will be competing with yourself. at that price people will just pick up a ps3.

if u want the psp to gain back the interests of gamers and non-gamers/casuals the best way is to come out at a price that jumps out to people.

The Go is a totally different situation, and also was mostly a test bed.

This is a whole new system with specs and power that can rival the current consoles.

Portable gaming (portable anything multimedia) is rapidly eclipsing consoles worldwide.

PSP2 to have OLED Touchscreen, 3G Support

Nikkei has some preliminary details on Sony's next generation PlayStation Portable system.

According to the paper, the new system will have 3G support. In Japan, the 3G service will be provided by NTT DoCoMo.

Using the 3G connection, gamers will be able to play online games and download software and movies. The service will not allow for phone calls.

The system will also have standard wireless LAN, of course. However, the 3G support will allow players to connect online wherever DoCoMo has wireless service. DoCoMo is Japan's largest mobile carrier.

Separate from the wireless functionality, the paper reports that the new PSP will make use of an OLED touch screen which will be larger than normal. Regarding the system's internals, the paper reports that Sony has developed a new processor for handling high resolution visuals.

Pricing on the next generation PSP is currently TBA, according to the paper. The paper does not mention possible subscription fees associated with the 3G service, or the possibility of a Wi-Fi only model.

Yet more reasons why it boggles my mind that they didn't converge this and the ps phone.
