Re: Sony PSVITA Discussion
Okay I'm back after playing a few different games on it last night.
The Screen
I'm sure it's not as good because OLED tech is better than LCD. But unless you have the machines side-by-side, you probably wouldn't notice a difference. I traded in my 1000 so the screen issue doesn't bother me.
Fit & Finish
It feels cheaper and lighter than the 1000. The 2000 is made of plastic where the 1000 was made of metal. It doesn't feel as substantial in your hands. The buttons are much better than the 1000 however. There are actually buttons you can press with a finger for the PS button and the Start button on the 2000, not those little things you have to use your fingernail for on the 1000. The d-pad feels great, the button placement feels better (easier to reach) and the shoulder buttons are "clickier" and not as spongy as the 1000's.
Ergonomics
This is where the 2000 really shines, IMO. It's more comfortable to hold because of the lighter weight and smaller, more rounded dimensions. I would get hand cramps playing my Vita, and I had to get a grip to compensate. I played my 2000 last night for a few hours and didn't have any problems. The smaller back touch panel is also nice for games like FIFA where I had to make a constant effort not to touch the back panel on the 1000.
Battery Life
It's better. You already knew that.
All in all, I like it. The screen downgrade isn't really noticeable unless you're looking for it. The ergonomics are MUCH better.Comment

Re: Sony PSVITA Discussion
Thanks for the impressions on the new model. I've never even played a Vita besides for a couple minutes on a in store demo but plan to purchase one this week for when I travel. I figure it's easier than dragging around a console like I used to. I figure I can buy The Show for it and between that and the constant parade of freebies from PS+ I should be set.
The one thing that really bugs me about the Vita is the stupid high cost of the memory cards. $70 or more for a 32 GB card is just a rip off in this day and age.Last edited by mrclutch; 05-08-2014, 05:51 PM.Gamertag and PSN Mrclutch1013

That's a big difference (I'm playing The Walking Dead on my Vita as well. So good. I'm on Chapter 5).
I played a game of FIFA (yep, still playing the launch title), MLB 14 and watched a couple of videos on YouTube and my battery was already halfway gone after less than 2 hours of use.Currently Playing:

Yeah it makes a huge difference between both 1k vs 2k models in terms if battery. I would take the OLED vs LCD trade off any day for better battery and not needing the grips. The 2k model fits so comfy in my hands. The 1k would cramp my fingers after 25-30 min.
Plus the 2k has better buttons and their placement is way better.
The OLED looks better for sure but that would not stop me from getting the 2k to have a better overall experience. Sony now just needs to get more original games on this thing and some cheaper memory cards. I'm still shocked the 64gb card wasn't released here in US on Tuesday.Comment

Re: Sony PSVITA Discussion
How much of a difference in the screen quality is there really between the OLED and LCD? From the few videos I've watched, it's hard for me to notice a significant difference between the two.Currently Playing:

Almost had to buy a new Vita today. Chapter 17 in Gravity Rush is kicking my butt. Those dang Nevi get me every time. I was able to get down to 1 enemy a few times but still bit the dust. I had to shut the system down and walk away before I chucked it across the room.Currently Playing:

Re: Sony PSVITA Discussion
If you are not using both side by side, I bet you will not notice a difference. If you have them side by side, you'll see the OLED be superior for sure.Comment

Re: Sony PSVITA Discussion
I picked up the new Vita last night. This is my first handheld since I played electronic football back when I was a kid
I am pretty impressed so far. I really like the feel and the buttons and sticks seem to work pretty well.
Since this is my first Vita I can't compare it to the old screen but I can't say the new display looks great. I can't imagine anyone would be disappointed with it.
Thanks to everyone in the thread for their recommendations. I do not think I will regret my purchase for when I am on the road.Gamertag and PSN Mrclutch1013
