    Re: Kinect Reviews

Can anyone with Yourshape Fitness comment on its quality? I'm interested in giving it a go but am holding back because it's a first attempt and EA Active is on its way.

I'm very, very impressed with Yourself. I canceled EA Active, as it's $100 and Yourself does the same thing for half the price. It's faults is that it's almost too picky, but you get a great workout from it.

Like EA, you can upload stats and view everything from the web, and an incoming iphone app as well.

      Cool stuff, great workout game.

        Re: Kinect Reviews

I will say that I am very sore today based on many of the games that we played yesterday with Kinect. Dance Central alone gives you a workout.

Dave, there is a thread in the non-sports gaming forum on Yourshape Fitness. It is getting good impressions on OS and other forums and there is a demo that you can check out which gives you a decent workout. I love the full body tracking........when my wife tried out the demo it tracked everything from head to toe giving numbers on height, how long her arms, legs, etc. are. I was like wow!

My only real complaints about Kinect so far is that if you have pet(s) or a baby running around while trying to play, it screws things up. It will just pause the game and wait till the baby or pet gets out of the way. Maybe the software will get smarter over time where it will be able to recognize the player via face and to tune everything else out. This is one area where Move and Wii MotionPlus are better since you don't have to worry about full tracking in the environment. All three are such totally different pieces of equipment, it is unfair to judge against one another.

Too bad that they did not allow for total Dashboard navigation with Kinect. I think it is coming with the next update in the Spring since the new Dashboard looks so eeirly like I can navigate with my hands, but does not allow for it at this point. It would have been cool to have this at launch, but oh well. Some of the navigation needs to be a bit more intuitive in the games. I wouldn't mind a small sphere in the lower right hand corner of the screen on all games that I can touch to bring up a pause like menu. I think these are things that they will fix down the road if they want this thing to succeed and get into more homes.

Thanks guys. I think I'm going to trade in the Wii toward it. We'll see.

I believe if you hold out your left hand at a 45 degree angle (down) it activates a pause.... Thought it was for all games.

Correct, that's universal, like the Xbox logo on the controller.

Yes, that is how it is currently done......but would be cool like some of the iPhone games where there is a little circle on screen in a small corner where you can access the pause menu instantly.

But if it was an instant thing, I'm sure because of all the running/jumping etc..., the game would get paused all the time when not wanting it to.

I see your point how interference could occur.

Will be picking this up near black friday. Keep the impressions coming. Definitely enjoy reading them. General consensus is that the technology is impressive, we just need some software to come out to fully utilize it... right?

Pretty much. Then again I've only played Adventures. It gives you the full scope of what can be done. Just hope to see it doen better and with better types of games.

Good points. My hope is that motion gaming is successful so that it keeps both MS and Sony from releasing another console in the next 2 years. I feel like we can go another 3-4 years with these.

I was thinking about Kung-Fu movies how one fighter is in the middle and is being attacked by a group of fighters but they come one at a time. I think that would be a neat concept for Kinect. It could sort of be like Horde Mode in Gears of War or Left4Dead. You start out slow and then one after another builds.

That would be cool and a hell of a work out.

Sony has something similar coming out. But do not know about the modes it will have.

that would be awesome if it was animated 1-1 and also uses natural motion so that every time you hit someone it's animated differently ex. shot to the balls or knee or throat etc.
