    Re: Gaming headsets

I picked up the PX5's yesterday. After about an hour, I went to Best Buy to pick up the DX11's.

I had one big issue with the PX5, they kept dropping sound, why they used 2.4ghz band is beyond me since everything uses that. Later on I was able to move the receiver around more and alleviate the issue.

The DX11's are basically the X41's but wired. They have the X11 headset with the Turtle Beach DSS processor so you get 5.1/7.1 sound out of them.

My pro's/con's below, not sure which set I'm going to keep yet.

    PX5

    Pro
    -No wires
-Tons of options, able to connect my iPhone to it to accept phone calls or listen to music.
-Love the look in the black/red.

    Con
-Very heavy on my head, I wear glasses and these were uncomfortable after about 20 minutes.
-Sound cutting out, but I seem to have fixed most of that issue, still bothered me.
    -Battery life seems very poor.

    DX11

    Pro
-Sound is outstanding, better than the PX5, with much deeper bass. They do sound similar, but the bass settings on the DSS unit blow away the PX5's more tinny bass sound.
-Very light, played for over an hour on my head and pretty much forgot I was wearing them.

    Con
-Wires! Granted, not nearly as bad as the Tritton's 15 power adapters, but still one long 15 foot wire from the unit to your headset, then a wire to the 360 controller.
-There's a low level hiss that is always present, and not present on the PX5 set. Once a game starts though, you can't hear the hiss.

The sound on both of these really sound great, they make you forget you're wearing headphones with how clear and loud the sound is. I'm leaning towards trying to just get comfrotable with the PX5's, but the way they sit on my head just annoys me. I knew they were there after a long session, I forgot I was wearing the DX11's. Wires suck, and I'm not in love with having them laying all over the living room, plus the bass and overall sound is better through the wired set, just not sure I can deal with the wires or just knowing that hiss is there.

I don't think you can go wrong with either. The DX11's are only through Best Buy and run $129.99 while the PX5's were $226 through Amazon.

Now I will put both through their paces over the weekend and make a decision.

That is strange, I found the bass boost on the x41 to be superior to the dx11 dss module.

I figured that the px5 would have similar bass boost to the x41 which I thought was the best part of the headphones

I thought the dx11 was very good but the bass did not ring true to me as the did x41's bass boost button

It could be the presets, there's no bass boost on the PX5, just a volume button, but there's 18 presets which I haven't figured anything out about yet, just haven't had time to connect to the PC and download them.

Playing Crysis 2 earlier, the DX11's couldn't handle the sound and were crackling everywhere. The PX5's handled them brilliantly. My only issue is still that the PX5's bother me as being too tight on my head, giving me a head ache.

I have decided that if I keep one, it's the PX5, but at this point I may be back to square one...again.

Just picked up the Tritton AX 720 headset. The best one in my price range that works on both PS3 and 360 that I've seen.

Yeah, I don't know about the presets either...they're releasing software soon I think.

The PX5's feel pretty good to me, but I can see how you might not like them...

I'm happy with them though, they serve my purpose and sound great to me.

Preset 4 on the PX5 gives you the bass boost. I think it has treble boost in it too. I'm not sure which preset separates the two, the little card that came with the PX5 says so.

I have my PX5 transmitter hooked up through my Denon receiver. I wish I knew more on how to set it up with the receiver, but I think I got it right. The headphones are on Zone 2 of the receiver and I just switch it to whatever input I want to go to the headphones. I wish I could figure out (if there is a way to) to make the headphones always on whatever the main source of the receiver is on rather than having it on Zone 2 though, and just mute the receiver to keep the sound only coming through the headphones rather than the speakers.

I so want to love the PX5's. They just kill my head if they are on for too long. I don't know what I'm going to do at this point LOL.

That and they started dropping signal again. My router is right behind my TV and my phone is near that as well, both are 2.4ghz and I know that's what's causing my drop issues, but not going to go about moving everything just for headsets (which I still don't know why they went on the 2.4ghz band, the Astro's are on the little used 5.8ghz band).

That is so dumb that they are on the same frequency, I hope I never run into any interference. I'm not sure what my phones are on, hopefully they are 5.8.

I gotta check my ps3 audio settings, but I got no sound through the px5s when I played the Back To the Future blu-Ray. Other Blu-ray movies worked but not that one. I wonder if it was a DTS problem? I'm not sure what sound the movie was playing in.

Dammm. They have no bass boost. That could be a deal breaker for me.

I liked the fact that the x41 had it and it was just a button and not like the dss which is a knob and required you to find the perfect balance which was hard for me to do.

But I hear great things about the presets you can download on the pc

Let me know if you are able to get some good pre sets and how they work for you

I am on the move a lot...so having a portable digitial decoder etc is a massive plus for me. The surround sound is amazing for a head set.

Based on reviews, I'd go with the Tritton AX720's. They're the same price and I can tell you from experience that the AX720's have great build quality, great sound, and the only con I can think of is that the mic can be kinda weird sometimes but for the most part it's fantastic.

Looks like my AX720's just went out last week. Wondering if I should by another or try the X31's??? I'm worried about the hissing sound that I've heard others mention? Also batteries?

Maybe 6-8 months. I called Tritton and they told me I needed to provide proof of purchase. Can't find my receipt. Still have the box/instructions. Instead of the hassle I rather just buy a new one and hold onto my receipt this time
