    Gaming headsets

I ended up ordering the Philips SHP9500 And a desktop mic. They'll be here today.

And of course the SteelSeries Arctis 7 dropped to $99.

Pretty confident (thanks Phobia) in buying an open-back, legit pair of headphones + a mic over a gaming headset, but man at that price I'm not sure what to think. Especially considering wireless...

If you don't like the Philips hit me up and I'll take them off your hands.

I'm not worried about not liking them. For as much reading as I did and advise I was giving I'm pretty confident they'll be great and fit my needs just fine. No intentions of returning them.

I'm just an indecisive SOB and making decisions like these always make me think twice lol.

Breaking it down though my setup ran me around $60: I'd be paying $40 more for wireless capabilities and a lesser sound quality headset. I think I made the right choice.

I've read some great reviews on those Phillips headphones... even from the audiophile community (if that even matters). I'm actually thinking of getting a pair so let us know how they turn out! Enjoy!

Thanks for the tip on the Steelseries A7. Just left BB with a pair. Will be using mainly with my Switch.

Nice dude, everything I've read on them says they're solid, and they look slick as hell. Had I gone wireless they'd have been my choice. Good luck with them Flight! Glad you were able to jump on the sale.

Well I had a good couple hours with them last night. A little Fortnight and some Destiny.

I have to say, in the short time with them I've already realized how amazing they are as far as directional sound goes. I could tell exactly where shots and footsteps were coming from and that was super helpful.

Can't wait to give them a solid go in PUBG not in a party with friends and all the background noise that comes with that. Safe to assume I'll love them even more.

I did download an EQ program for my PC. There's a few Reddit threads out there where guys have spent a ton of time equalizing these things. Can't compare it to how they sound out of the box but I thought the settings sounded amazing and everyone in the thread agreed it was a pretty big improvement from default.

Early on for sure but I am very happy with the purchase. Especially for the price. Thanks again to this thread, especially Phobia for all the great advice!

I use Voicemeter Banana for my EQ, it's a nice program but can be a little daunting at first.

We need to get in some PUBG at some point.

Yes we do. Been a while since I've won one and I know you've got the chops to get it done. That is if you don't mind me dragging on the old coattails...lol. Although I do fully expect to up my game since I'll be using a quality set of cans for once.

I grabbed EQ APO and Peace. Basically because the OP of the Reddit thread I was on had created a profile specific for the SHP9500 and I was able to import his settings. Those EQs are daunting for sure and I'd just be guessing at stuff so I didn't mind taking the easy road. But again, the sound is amazing.

What is the prognosis with Windows Spacial Sounds? Something I should be using?

It's basically windows version of "virtual surround sound" which was brought to us via the Fall Creators update.

I'll say this, I haven't tried it and it's more due to the fact I don't like software surround sound but I do plan to give it a go at some point.

I'd test it and see what you think.

The mic seems good as well. Played Friday the 13th and everyone could hear me loud and clear. Only problem is I can't get the sidetone to work for the PS4. I can't seem to find anything to help me figure it out so I'm assuming it doesn't work. Which is one feature I really wanted. I guess I'll deal with it because I think my wife would kill me if I returned another headset.

I could have gotten a Turtle Beach set because all of them have sidetone, but I just don't think they are good quality.

The only other negative which directly ties into the mic is they are closed back so I can barely hear myself talk.

But like I said, the sound is fantastic. I would definitely recommend this set if you don't mind sidetone being unavailable on PS4.
I just bought these for my PC and after a few days I am very satisfied with my purchase. The sound is great and I can wear them for long gaming sessions with no problems.

Hyper X 2s that much better than Sony Gold's? Main complaint about Gold's is the break easily. I've had mine since around release and other than mesh tearing some they haven't broke once. So just wondering if the Hyper X series were that much better or just roll with my Golds until they no longer work?

The Corsair Void Pro's have been pretty awesome so far but pail in comparison to my Sennheiser hd650's connected to a receiver, pretty obvious with the price difference.

They are super comfortable, you can wear them all day no problem. There's basically no clamp force so they can slip off your head if you tend to move your head a lot.

The RGB lighting it has is nice but it drains your battery pretty quick so you have to turn that off.

I'll definitely use them as my traveling pair with my new laptop.

I'm completely new to headsets, but I purchased the Steel Series Arctis 7 headset the other day for the PS4. In R6 Siege I can usually hear if someone is directly to my left or right, but its hard to tell if someone is behind, in front, or above. I probably just have to get used to it more.

It also could be the closed back headset stuff I read about in this thread (Sounds being more unnatural bc sounds don't escape the headset).

I want wireless, but just purchased the Phillips SH9500 with the boom mic and that comes Tuesday. I have a feeling i will hear positions a lot better...

                                We'll see....
