Ugh... need some help

Ok, At home I play my Xbox 360 on a nice HDTV, but when I'm away for school I have a standard TV, but I realized that on the back it has 5 component inputs. I went and bought a component cable for my Xbox 360, which I has 6 prongs. My question is will I notice a difference using the component cables on my standard TV as opposed to using the composite cables that come with the Xbox 360? Also what is the extra yellow prong for? I just leave it disconnected, or is there supposed to be 6 places to plug it in?

Your cable sounds like a component/composite combo cable (yellow is composite video).

Yes, component does make a difference, not huge mind you, but depending on the TV it can make a fair difference.

You'll definitely notice a difference, although you use the following five slots for a component hookup:

Yeah thats how I hooked it up. I'm not sure how much of a difference it'll make. I'm thinking of just dealing with the composite cables until I can get an HDTV for myself and use the HDMI cable that I already have.

Your cable has both component and composite so just hook both up and switch between and see for yourself.

A lot of it depends on the TV, if it's a good sdtv it's definitely worth the $10 or so.

Any TV should show a significant improvement with component over composite, even a lousy SDTV.

Shouldn't be too hard to find one in the 7 or 8 dollar neighborhood.

This. You should see a noticeable difference. Composite is the worst connection while component is quite good (small step below HDMI/VGA/DVI)
