Why do people feel a certain satisfaction in beating a game then anyway? Why do people get frustrated over losing in a sports game? The way I see it, the more goals there are, the more tasks I'm going to want to try and accomplish. It's yet another feat which helps the game's lasting power.

Re: Your thoughts on Achievements/Trophies?
Well I would just like something more which says I won something, you know? I remember some old SNES games where once you beat the game, there's nothing. It says "You Win" then goes back to the main menu. You like having some ending cinematic, credits rolling, something which makes it feel more valuable. In this case, a trophy/achievement is always nice to get.
I don't go down looking at the list and aim for 100%. I don't have one platinum and I only have several gold ones. Though I've nearly completed the list for Ratchet & Clank: A Crack In Time and there's one trophy I can't possibly get now because of the order I accomplished one thing over the other in the storyline. Even replaying the game won't allow me to get it. I would love to use that PS3 hack for this one because I feel I deserve it and know I would have it by now. Is that for me to stroke my ego? No. I just feel like I deserve a platinum by this point is all (or I will when I finish what I need to).
I see it as an incentive, I don't know how else to say it but it is rewarding to hear that little jingle each time I earn one. I don't know why I get one for completing the first mission of a game though.Comment

Trophies are cool, but I am not really into doing all those dull tasks, I would rather play another game, that is more fun for me. But, if others want to do that, go for it. Different strokes for different folks.Comment

Re: Your thoughts on Achievements/Trophies?
The descriptions could be unlocked after you beat the game you are playing. So many times, trophy descriptions have spoiled a game for me. That is the main reason why I really don't go out of my way collecting trophies. If the trophy descriptions would be unlocked after you beat a game, maybe I would make a concerted effort to obtain more of them. Now, I don't even look anymore.
As far as my opinion to them, I'm pretty indifferent towards them. Some I work for and others I don't care if I get or not. I like unlocking them, but it's not something I go after for solely. I think it's weird if people go out of their way to spend hours and hours trying to get one 35 point achievement, when you could be playing a game in a way you actually enjoy. With that said, I really hate the online achievement/trophies and would prefer most everything is offline.Last edited by WazzuRC; 01-24-2011, 02:35 PM.Comment

Re: Your thoughts on Achievements/Trophies?
A few years back, (before I got my ps3 and The Show) I became so bored with gaming that each week I would go out and buy 3 or 4 cheap games just to try and get the achievements. Luckily for graduation, I got a PS3 and have never looked back. Ha.
I like the Franchise/Season mode ones. Where you have to play a certain percentage of the games and accomplish certain things to get the trophy.Comment

Re: Your thoughts on Achievements/Trophies?
Can't speak for kngrich, but for me beating a game is much more satisfying than going online to some gaming website to find out where the 100 hidden treasures are, etc.

I'd say the Trophies thread, however, has more than shown that adding these things was a very good idea, and has extended a $60 purchase for a lot of people.Comment

Re: Your thoughts on Achievements/Trophies?
I'm certainly not against trophies/achievements. I like when one of them pops up on my Xbox, but I NEVER go looking for achievements. I have also never looked at my friend's list of games and thought that they were awesome because they had completed 100% of some games. I play the game until I don't want to play it, I don't look for more points to score on my gamerscore. I have no problem with people who do though. I like the idea of gamerscore and trophies/achievements. Some people really get into them, but my interest in them is just casual. They definitely add another dimension to the games.PSN: Koolie_G

Re: Your thoughts on Achievements/Trophies?
I am not "against" them either. I enjoy hearing the little chime when I earn one.
But, be advised. If you earn a lot of trophies. Then you will have "no life." Too bad no one knows where that "no life" line is though.

Re: Your thoughts on Achievements/Trophies?
I couldn't care less, to be completely honest. When I see a trophy pop up on the screen, I think to myself, "Oh, ok". And that's about as far as it goes for me.
That being said, I can understand why people hate the online trophies. And I can also understand why certain people really get into them. I think they're pointless(and pretty dorky too, right?), but I definitely get both sides. Now, more than everComment

Re: Your thoughts on Achievements/Trophies?
I love going for trophies, but I think I've grown to hate the idea of them.
There are times now where I'll be playing a game and find myself doing something ridiculously repetitive just to get a trophy. Then I'll realize I'm having no fun at all and I'll ask myself, "why the hell am I doing this?"A recent example was playing the same gang hideout over and over and over in Red Dead Redemption just to get a lot of XP so I could get the trophy for hitting the top rank in multiplayer.
I really hate them in sports games. I used to love playing years and years and years in franchise mode, now if I get all of the trophies (like I did within a month of getting Madden), I have a hard time playing the game anymore.
I do think they are great for adding longevity to certain titles, but most of the time they just make me play average or mediocre games longer than I should, or do ridiculously tedious tasks in awesome games that I should be enjoying but eventually come to despise.Ryan Spencer

Re: Your thoughts on Achievements/Trophies?
Trying to collect achievements has its ups and downs. For some games its caused me to explore new areas and has been enjoyable. Like the pigeons in GTA4. Normally I hate collecting type achievements, but that one had me seeing a lot of Liberty City I had missed playing through the story. Never did get the achievement though - I missed one lousy pidgeon and there's no way I'm going through that again.
The worst part of going for achievements is they can cause me to waste time doing some task in a game that I am not enjoying or just plain getting frustrated over. But now after accumulating a decent gamerscore I still like to add to it.
For me 100% completion of a game is finishing the main story (on any, usually normal, difficulty). Most of the time I will only play through a game once. There should be more (extra) credit given for completing the main story in singleplayer games. I hate that many games require multiple playthroughs for 100%. I only have about 6 100% achievement games.
When I got the PS3 I decided to not fall into the same trap and not focus much on the trophies. I think I am enjoying more just playing through the games I like on the PS3.Comment

Here's my analogy: If video game were a blu ray movie then the story mode would be the actual movie and trophies would be the "extras" (deleted/extended scenes, commentary by the cast & crew, behind the scenes look, etc.). I mean, sure I know all of that stuff's there but, I hardy (if ever) have enough interest to spend my time watching it. I'd rather just watch the next movie. My 2K17 Boston Celtics MyLeague
