And what happens if Sony and MS next consoles struggle? This could be a bad sign for everyone. I personally don't think there is room for three consoles in the future. Possibly only one over time. Instead we still have three plus the potential Steam Box (and Ouya if you consider it next gen).

Cheap mobile games have bred a cheap gaming mentality. I don't think people are willing to pay over $300 for a console anymore.

Maybe they could struggle but I think thay after seeing games that aren't held back by 6 and 7 year old technology, people are going to get excited again. One of the big problems with the Wii U is that none of their games look that different (visually), they just look like the games that we've been looking at for years.

One of the big problems with the Wii U is that none of their games look that different (visually), they just look like the games that we've been looking at for years.

That's the thing. The WiiU is technologically an old system which did not excite people at all and didn't inspire more development from third parties.

And now Nintendo is reaping what they sowed. They thought that they could get away with having another underpowered system and a gimmicky controller. What's eveb worse for them is that we are still months away from E3 and the other systems haven't been officially announced yet but Nintendo still hasn't been able to make people excited about their console. I can't see how this situation can get better for them.

I think Steambox and Ouya will be more or less statically insignificant and can be tossed into the same category as android-on-a-stick kickstarters until proven otherwise. With the hardware-related firings at Steam this week I wonder if that concludes their tantrum over Windows 8. In January it moved into the #3 most used OS on Steam (overtaking Vista), will probably overtake XP this month.

As to the new platforms struggling, I just don't see it. Games can be made for both, and for PCs. That alone will keep them going through any initial bumps and prices inevitably lower and the consoles become more attractive. As that happens, the WiiU will only look worse.

Right now is Nintendo's window to shine as the only available 'next gen system' and they've blown it completely. Now in a few months they will be the 3rd fiddle and it will become painfully apparent that they're the next gen console with the capabilities of ~6-7 year old hardware.

Unless it is tied heavily to their PS4 plans, the Vita has a similar problem. Slow market for consoles is a great time to push an alternative, and it just hasn't happened. Now they get to try and revive it in the glare of the marketing and increase consumer spend centered around new consoles.

Have you even touched the gamepad? Have you seen or played any of the games that involve it including any of the NintendoLand games? It's not a gimmick imo. There are some real possibilities with it that I think could be good.

There is no question the underpowered nature of the Wii U is a bit disappointing but some of you guys in this thread have ZERO interest in this console yet come here only to troll imo.

What about his post is untrue or trolling though? By definition the tablet controller is the console's gimmick.

It's only a gimmick if it is useless. The tablet controller makes certain games like Luigi's mansion and Mario Chase possible. No other system can do that stuff. Using it for hot routes and playbook calling in Madden is another cool thing. I see a lot of potential in sports games with it.

As for trolling, it's jmood in general. He has zero interest in the console. He only pops in here to trash the system. He's not the only one.

Semantics. His use of that word was meant to trash the controller. If he's actually used the controller I would have no problem.

I still maintain that people that have ZERO interest in this system (other than trashing it and praying for it to fail) should not be posting in this thread.

Yeah I have played with it and I don't see how it's not a gimmick. It's just a bigger version of a DS screen and much like with everything else Nintendo makes, it's already outdated compared to other devices with touch capability. I come in this thread because I'm interested in the industry and the only reason I came into it today was because the NPD numbers were released and have shown that Nintendo's decisions are costing them.

I've had the system for months and ZombiU was one of my favorite games of last year. The problem is I haven't even sniffed a wiiu game since.

I'm not really sure what they were thinking with their launch line-up, or even just their overall lineup for this first year. They had to know there was a good chance they would only get a year or so before the "real" next-gen consoles dropped, and they've failed to make anything close to a significant impression.

The original wiimote was the ultimate gimmick. Throw in wii sports, and you had a extremely profitable and successful combination. So much so, that the wii was able to snub its nose at the superior hardware of the ps3 and 360.

If Nintendo thought they would be able to repeat that same success with the Wii U Gamepad, they're kidding themselves. Unfortunately, for Nintendo, I don't think they were kidding.

If your a sports gamer like i am, I though that the origional Wii would be amazing. I was wrong, as most of them were ****ty ports (roster updates year after year) once I wised up to what devolpers were doing, I got a PS3.. Not making the mistake to buy a WiiU and have it turn into a dust collector once (and it will most likely happen again) devolpers just say "**** it" and stop making good 3rd party games for the wii
