    Re: Wii U Discussion

Had a wild time this weekend with my boys (3 and 7) playing Super Mario 3D World. The seven year old is actually pretty good and the 3 year old just follows along and keeps saying he's Mario and takes credit for all the stuff I do. (I'm actually Mario).

This is a great system to play alongside little kids.

      Mario Kart 8 media:

Eurogamer - Gorgeous Mario Kart 8 retro tracks compared to originals

As usual, the game includes a total of 16 returning tracks alongside 16 new courses, the opening eight of each were available for us to try.

      ...

CVG - Why Mario Kart 8 is fast becoming the most exciting Nintendo game in years

Here, for the first time in the series, replays are a joy. This is mainly down to two things. The first is the ability to edit a replay, with the game providing a set of menu options you can tweak to create your own highlights package.

We aren't exactly talking Adobe Premiere here, but these options do at least let you focus on the moments you want to see again. You can choose up to four characters for the replays to focus on, what sort of action you want to highlight (be it drifts, weapon attacks, big jumps, etc) and pick a duration - 30 seconds, one minute or the full race - before watching your custom package and, if you're happy with it, sending it to a friend.

The other reason replays are so entertaining is the option to slow videos down to near-Matrix bullet time levels. At the slowest of speeds, Mario Kart almost looks balletic, giving you time to view the countless tiny details you don't notice when you're bombing it down the road.

Destructoid - Mario Kart 8 is stunning and fierce in HD

Now, the series is finally taking its first steps onto an HD platform, and after spending about an hour of playtime with it, I just don't see how they can go back after this. I'm just going to come right out and say it: Mario Kart 8 is one gorgeous game.
One of the most impressive features of Mario Kart 8 is the robust customization options. As in past games, you can deck out and customize each of the karts to fit your tastes and preferences. You can switch out to different karts and motorcycles that focus on speed, power, or handling, and can even swap out wheel types to fit whatever track you plan to race on. In MK8, they takes things a bit further by allowing players to mix and match different parts, chassis, wheels, and the like from different racers. Want to have Toad on a more level playing field with the other heavy hitters? Then deck out his vehicle with a heavy frame.
As you can expect, MK8 features online races, leaderboards, and many other features to give players access to constant competition.

IGN - Mario Kart 8 is Gorgeous, Fast, and Incredibly Fun

Mario Kart 8 is the best looking game on Wii U so far. Its vibrant vistas stand apart thanks to both incredible attention to detail and great art direction. Its high speed tricks feel faster. Its framerate is locked at an impressive 60 fps (even in two-player split-screen mode).
Mario Kart 8 Introduces Expanded Item Customization

"There was some item customization in Mario Kart 7, in that you could choose to have a mushroom-only race or shell-only race. We're going to have that plus a little bit more, actually, in Mario Kart 8,"

"I think we're going to be able to answer that feeling of, 'I don't want to race with items.' Well, OK, then no items. Or, 'I only want to have bananas.' Well, OK. I think we're going to be able to provide a system to answer that desire this time around."
      Two Rainbow Roads confirmed

Also during the roundtable interview, Mario Kart 8 director Kosuke Yabuki revealed that the game will feature not one, but two Rainbow Road courses. One is a remake of the N64 course, while the other is brand-new, and Yabuki teased that it's "really spectacular."

Itching to jump back in with Mario Kart on the horizon...damn it looks good.

Debating in whether to pick another one up now or see if we get a MK bundle...something I see as likely.

Is anyone having issues with the gamepad randomly disconnecting while you're playing it within 10 feet of the TV? This has been going on for a month, and nothing has changed in my gaming area (or house for that matter) that should/could cause interference.

Ideas of what to do (fyi, I have a launch day Wii U Premium).

Never had that problem. Anything obstructing your Wii U? If I walk out of my living room I lose the signal to my gamepad.

Mario Kart can't come soon enough. I have all these systems and no killer 4 player game. Old school Coop needs to happen now!

I'm pretty tempted just to go all in financial and time wise with the Wii U now...

MK8 is going to own me...still want to play DK Tropical Freeze and Wind Waker, and honestly there is nothing truly "can't miss" for me on the PS4 until Destiny and that is months away.
