Re: Playstation Network and PS Plus Discussion

I wish the Playstation Store had more fair prices on their retail games. I'm forced to download a lot of games because of where I'm at. In the states, I would consider buying a game like NBA 2k14 at a better price because it's not the newest game, but the PS store will still slap a 59.99 price tag on it.

That's just an example. It happens with other games as well.

I don't know how they expect to stay competitive. If I'm in the States and I'm given other options like ordering games, gamestop, best buy, etc.. no way I'm paying 20$+ more for a game when I can just pick it up.

Just a personal gripe. I won't bitch about it as much when the PS4 finally accumulates a large number of games and the freebies on PS+ are actually worth it. PS3 is still getting the better value for PS+ right now.

Still remember when I got Sleeping Dogs for free...

Who are they trying to stay competitive with? There is (and will forever be) only one digital marketplace on any console.

Re: Playstation Network and PS Plus Discussion

I'm in need of some help from my fellow PS4 OSers. My PSN account on my console is ridiculously slow and often unresponsive. Avatars and things from my friends list often sit there and spin and do not load. When they do it takes forever. And that's just the tip of the iceberg. I seem to be logged into PSN but when I go to system>network>test connection, it stops when it attempts to check the PSN.

The PSN store usually won't load. And most importantly, I can't access online feature for any of my games. Therefore no patches. Right now I have 2.02 system software. Is that out of date? I really hope someone can be of some use and this post doesn't get lost in the shuffle as this is becoming increasingly frustrating from a long-time Xbox 360 user who converted to the PS4 for MLB: The Show. I never had these issues on Xbox Live.

Do you have a link supporting your claim?....oh wait I do,and guess what?...I also have a follow up to the situation.

Hacker group DerpTrolling claims to have released a "very small portion" of usernames and logins for three gaming networks in its possession as a "warning to companies".

DerpTrolling leaks PSN, 2K, Windows Live customer logins
Hacker group DerpTrolling claims to have released a "very small portion" of usernames and logins for three gaming networks in its possession as a "warning to companies".
DerpTrolling, the hacker group that claimed responsibility for a DDoS attack on Blizzard's servers over the weekend, has released a log of customer logins across the PlayStation Network, 2K Games and Windows Live.

"Dear Internet," the Pastebin document reads, "The following is a very small portion of Lord Gaben and the rest of his crew's glorious raids across the high seas of the Internet."

Inside are usernames and passwords for 2,131 PSN users; 1,473 Windows Live users; and 2,000 2K Games users.

The move runs contrary to the group's previous assertions that it did not want to leak customer data -- but the group has decided to change its tactics after finding that its efforts were not being taken seriously.

"We were advised by one of our friends over at RedHack to make adjustments in our operations," the DerpTrolling member said -- but noted that the move was not a show of force. "A show of force from us, would be an attack on 2K that would be very similar to our attacks on Blizzard. Like I said, DerpTrolling in no way wants to harm our children by leaking such damaging data. It's only a warning to the companies."
The group hopes that, by leaking the customer credentials, it will force companies to upgrade their servers to prevent DDoS and data hacks, resulting in better customer service. And, although the leak isn't large in the grand scheme of things, the DerpTrolling member said that the group has much more data that it didn't leak.
              <figure class="image pull-left image-medium">
<figcaption></figcaption></figure>"We have 800,000 from 2K and 500,000 credit card data. In all of our raids we have a total of around 7 million usernames and passwords," he said. "We have around 2 million Comcast accounts, 620,000 Twitter accounts, 1.2 million credentials belonging to the CIA domain, 200,000 Windows Live accounts, 3 million Facebook, 1.7 million EA origins accounts, etc."

He was keen to stress that DerpTrolling means business.
"There are a lot of people and fellow hackers who believe that DerpTrolling is just a bunch of kids. But the truth is we have been associated with and assisted every well known hacking group aside from The Syrian Electronic Army and LizardSquad (although we were invited to join LizardSquad)," he said.

"You heard about Anonymous knocking the entire .Mil domain offline? Well that was us! You hear of RedHack launching DDoS attacks against Turkey's government? That was us as well! You heard about ****Sec knocking gaming servers and websites offline? Well that was us too! And that was us who knocked Syria's internet offline earlier this year. DerpTrolling really has many forms, most people only see the Gaming side of us! We can be very serious hackers."

CNET has contacted Sony, Microsoft and 2K for comment and will update when we receive more information.

Update Novermber 22, 9.28am AEDT: We have been hearing reports that the leak may have been faked, either in part or full, using various methods, including repurposing customer login details leaked in previous data breaches. CNET would like to advise users still change their passwords, just in case.
And as promised, here is a follow up from Kotaku......

Don't freak out: despite widespread reports you might have seen today, the alleged "major security breach" affecting the PlayStation Network and other services could very well be a fake.

              Original story follows:
This morning, a number of websites wrote about the purported breach thanks to a CNET report that claimed an anonymous group had "released a log of customer logins" across PSN, Origin, and Windows Live, among other online services. "PSN hacked again!" proclaimed one website.

There are a few red flags in the original report, though. For one, CNET says something called 2K Game Studios has been hacked. There's no such thing as 2K Game Studios. More bizarrely, the report's only source is a Pastebin posted on Twitter by the alleged hackers, who have also taken responsibility for a number of other hacking and DDOS attacks over the past few months. There is no evidence that anything in this Pastebin is real.

The Pastebin in question is a list of several thousand accounts and passwords that purportedly belong to PSN, Windows Live, and "2K" users. It certainly appears upon first glance to be a varied list of accounts and passwords... but are any of them legit?

This morning, I went through a few dozen random PSN accounts in the password to see which ones actually worked. Just trying to log into the accounts wouldn't have been the best test—as if this was real, it's likely some of them would have changed their passwords by now—so instead I went to the Change Your Password page on Sony's website to try and verify if those accounts were ever used in the first place.

Every single account tested gave me the message "Not a valid e-mail address. Please try again," indicating that those accounts weren't signed up for the PlayStation Network at all.

Similar tests on the Pastebin list of Windows Live accounts reveal that the listed e-mails are indeed linked to real addresses, though none of the listed passwords worked for me.

As for the 2K accounts? Though the hacking group claimed to have "800,000 from 2K," it's not really clear what they're referring to. There is no universal account for video games published by 2K. This could be a reference to the 2K forums or the MyPlayer accounts linked to NBA 2k, but when I tested some of the Pastebin accounts on both of those respective websites, none of them appeared to exist.

I also searched around for a few dozen of those listed "2K" accounts, many of which were unique identifiers with limited internet presence. Some of those accounts were tied to hacking and botting forums; others were linked to other games, like Minecraft and Runescape. Some on the list are nonexistent addresses like "[email protected]."

What's more, a security researcher named Colin Keigher broke down today's list of accounts and found that they share similarities with other lists of dumped accounts—his conclusion is that this particular Pastebin could be an amalgam of other database leaks, which might explain why none of the tested PSN e-mail addresses are actually linked to accounts.
The Guardian also talked to a security expert who also believes that this is fake. "Looking through the list, there's certainly an awful lot of crossover with data from previous breaches, in particular the Adobe one," Trend Micro vp Rik Ferguson told them. "The random sample cross-referencing I have done certainly show that the majority of data listed here has shown up already in previous breaches with a very few exceptions which seem to appear only in this particular paste."

Though Sony, EA, and 2K have not yet responded to requests for comment—and while it's always a good idea to change your passwords regularly—this "hack" appears to be nothing to worry about.
