Wipeout HD is the most undervalued game for the PS3. No other game tests my hand-eye coordination like this. (Try Phantom Speed with assists off for a real challenge.)

Now that the online community is back, I can play this all night again.

Played thru Dead Nation again last night, just as fun the second time thru on a different difficulty. Dead Nation reminds me a lot of Diablo, although I'm not sure it's that replayable.

Wipeout is not for the feint of heart. I don't think I ever finished higher than 5th on any of the higher difficulty levels.

Was there any mention of a system update... I didn't get home til after 9pm and when I joined the live stream they were on the PSVita presentation and I just got a system update to 3.65

It's too hard. I can't even win the first race on Novice with assists on. Best I did was 3rd. And I do OK on other racing games.

I wish I would have picked something else.

It's not that hard,

Once you know the track layouts better it is a lot easier. Also utilizing the mid air barrel rolls is essential to boosting your speed. Absorbing your weapons builds back your ship energy.

Yeah, once I started to learn the track...I actually took 1st place on my last race. Knowing the layout off the track really makes a tremendous difference.

Yeah, a better tutorial would help.

When you are in the air a little higher (happens more at the faster speed classes) just quickly go L-R-L on the left stick.

Once you know the tracks better you will discover when to use the different power ups. If you use the turbo boost at the wrong place, it can be bad. On the straight-aways, they are great. Same can be said for the auto pilot - knowing when to use them. On tough corner AP can really shave off some time.

Something else that I recommend is to try the Speed Lap. It lets you do 99 laps, and also you earn a silver trophy. That more than anything helped me memorize the track layouts.

The game definitely has a steep learning curve. I have played Wipeout since the PS1 days, so sometimes I forget that a lot of guys are just now picking it up. Stick with it though, once you get better at it, it is very balanced and a real joy to play. Especially online.

I stayed away from Wipeout as well. Just don't have the time to play something that requires that much work to get good at. It looked awesome, but learning curve was too much.
