Re: Will Sony beat MS to the punch next gen?

I'd like to do a stand in line for a console once just for the experience, and before I get to old for it to be a reasonable idea.

Does anyone think Sony or Microsoft will give the other one a whole year head start, or will they release within months of each other?

Re: Will Sony beat MS to the punch next gen?

Personally both companies need to find a way to somewhat cheaply make the next system, the way pricing is going, it could be nearing the thousand, especially if Sony keeps it's trend.

Whomever is going to win next gen is going to need a few factors

        1) A great opening list of games
        2) Economically priced
        3) Online innovations
        4) Functions aside from gaming

People are buying game consoles as media centers and they need to be designed as such. But honestly they need to find more innovative ways to give better technology at a cheaper price.

        Main things for Sony is

        1) Keeping the price tag reasonable
        2) Come out all guns blazing
        3) Ensure online security (Might have to shift to a charged service)

I actually orginally wanted a PS3, but since I was about 16 and had no job, I settled with a 360 and fell in love with it. Sony needs to make that level of impact.

        For M$

        1) Power and functionality
        2) More open use [Internet browser, more freedom]
        3) Switch CD formats

But the gaming industry is going to fall apart if games go up much more in cost. The $60 price tag is already bad, if it jumps to $70 I doubt I'll be gaming much more. Both companies need to develop affordable and powerful hardware and aid developers in gaming. Proper and inevasive advertisements can help raise funds as well to keep prices down. Another $10 increase would be a 40% increase of what games cost just five years ago when last generation was main stream. That's pretty bad.

At this point in time, power and affordability are going to be the main factors in who will win next generation. Money isn't loose like it was back when 360 and PS3 were out.

The problem wasn't the year later but the suprise was when I first started up the PS3.

PSN marketplace was a mess, online features a mess, no chat, no achievements, and no decent avatars even. Nothing really game related but that set the tone for me. US 360 gamers at that point were spoiled by Microsoft's interface.

Re: Will Sony beat MS to the punch next gen?

Regardless I will get both consoles because like that I never miss out on something great.

            Which would be my favorite?

The MS console unless they are blown out by Sony which I doubt.

Last time the Sony console was my favorite was when PS2 was released but then bought an xbox a year after they released just to play Halo since I heard great things about it.

From that point on, I never looked back and to me Sony has not been able to give me the level of satisfaction in terms of gaming then MS.

It has continued with 360 over PS3 and it has widen in terms of enjoyment I get from both.

I love playing the Show on PS3 and some not all exclusives like KZ and Uncharted. I love watching movies and Netflix on PS3 over 360

But when it comes down to hard core gaming, my xbox is my baby

Here is hoping that games are equal for 3rd party games in next gen. I feel that this is the major reason that PS3 has been smacked by MS in the U.S

People cannot expect Sony to give them a similar Live experience when they do not pay

The paid membership is more of just discount on things over what live gives you with xbox live.

Idk I guess economic wise they should try to hit market first obviously, but personally it won't matter to me as I won't be buying any on the 1st price if it's like the ps3 where it was incredibly high( 300-400 I could live with if it impresses)

Personally I think the ps3 is way better then the 360 and that MS needs to come out with something as I think the 360 is behind the PS3. I know a lot more people with a 360 then ps3 other then my best friends

So MS needs to come out with something to even hang with the mighty PS3 even though it is crushing the PS3...Yea makes sense

Can't wait for the new console wars to start. I have to think that info is going to start leaking in early 2012. Fels like forever since the last battle.

I suspect this time around Sony wont be saying we should want to work more than one job to be able to own their next console, or taking out controller vibration and calling it a last-gen feature ... only to re-add it once their legal problems were cleared up.

If you notice I said personally, not generally. TO ME the PS3>360 and it's not even close so that's why I think MS needs to step up their game up. I know that more people have a 360 then a PS3, but that's because it came out first and was cheaper for a majority of the time

                            So nice try

You can't count out the success MS has with Xbox Live and how that will shape what we see next. It's almost to the point where the console is secondary to what online has become. Sony or Nintendo really can't say that, and that's where I see them struggling with introducing their next system. They have yet to really introduce such an online peripheral to their console, something that has proven to be very much an essential.

We are naive to say the next console will be about what traditional consoles have been about. There are now elements that go outside of gaming that are important to a consoles success and I think MS wins there. They have successfully created an atmosphere where the consumer is asking, "What's next?" I don't see that in the PS3 or Wii.
Being kind, one to another, never disappoints.

Re: Will Sony beat MS to the punch next gen?

I think Sony is on the right track plenty with their PSN service... and will be just as essential as is Live, especially with the introduction of Vita.

People sell it way too short still. I use both, see no difference with both when I play, other than I have to pay for one over the other for online.

Both offer a marketplace, both offer online gaming, both offer themes, both offer avatars, both offer trophies or achievements, both have leaderboards, both have in game chat, both have gamer id's, etc.

This is MSFT's second go round with an online service after a very simplistic one on the original XBox. For Sony's first go round, it is pretty damn good, and came a long way from the beginning. Next gen I am sure they will match for match as they do now. Especially with their introduction of the Playstation Entertainment Network branding they are sticking with.

In the end we all win, because of the games. I can't care less if MSFT sells 3% more total sales than Sony or vise/versa. Keep spitting out the games, and I will play on both.

To add, most on here only see what is in this country... other areas of the world like Europe and Japan where the PS3 dominates, their service is essential. Branding, just as the branding is here.

It will definitely be interesting for the next consoles, and I hope they focus on making the networks and features better, and not worry about gimmiky additions to distract from what needs to be addressed.
