My son got a gaming PC for Christmas. Thanks to game pass ultimate I haven't bought him any new games this year. He is pretty much exclusively PC now (hes even developing that PC master race nonsense, lol). But its just another reason why game pass is such a great deal.

I see they added Alan Wake to gamepass. Thinking about it, Alan Wake could be a solid single player exclusive to have in the Microsoft library. I really enjoyed it back in 2010 or 2011.

And with this, I can finally start to talk a bit about what I'm working on. You may remember years ago I worked on Live TV on Xbox. After a journey through the wilderness of Microsoft, I'm back on Xbox. I am on the Game Pass team, driving integration with the xCloud team.

I can't say much beyond what is in the articles today, but happy to provide what info I can before our launch and talk in more detail post launch.

It has been. It's been a long journey since DVR got cut 4 years ago and I helped shut down Groove Music Pass and ship the new Chromium-based Edge. Back working with many of the same people who worked on the TV/OneGuide stuff at Xbox launch and excited to make Game Pass even better.

Glad you've been able to navigate all that, I suspect this featureset you're on now won't be going anywhere soon

Impatiently waiting for PC beta, I recently picked up a Razer Kishi because it seems more convenient than the controller / phone bracket setup but haven't had time to do much with it yet. Very good first impressions at least!

Grabbing the Kishi is a great idea, especially if this is the type of gaming you can see yourself doing. The Xbox controllers are great, but carrying them with you and getting the ergonomics right with a clip can be tougher than having something like the Kishi.

There's a handful of officially supported Xbox cloud gaming accessories, like the recently announced 8BitDo controller as well. We're hoping to make it as straightforward as possible for people to play Xbox games on their phone.

My only problem with the Kishi is I really want to jump on a Surface Duo when they finally launch and yeah, obviously that could be an issue with all current clip on solutions, lol. My Pixel 3XL could turn into a de facto MS Vita though since I won't need to trade it in.

Looking forward to xCloud getting to a point where I can just get a dongle or app on all my TVs not connected to a console and you're just controller pairing away from accessing either an unused console or the xCloud library.

That’s exiting to hear. I’m anxious to give it a try.

You were great back then with the TV info. Just bought an Apple TV to do what I assumed One Guide would be doing had the launch not gone so poorly. And, man, you wouldn’t even need an HDMI in anymore!

But Xcloud seems like a good use of resources, too. It’s a way to give Xbox some of the functionality I like with the Switch, which is a fantastic add.

Thank you! I had a blast on that team and supporting you all. We weren't anything revolutionary, but I do think we were on the leading edge of evolution for how people want to watch TV. Cable/Satellite, streaming TV, and gaming all in one guide - searching across multiple streaming providers for a show, and even adding DVR.* Phil Spencer actually loved what we did and the demise of our team and OneGuide was somewhat outside of his control and a result of the terrible launch PR that resulted in the org needed to focus solely on "games, games, games" to make up for the launch disaster.

Cloud Gaming is going to be very impactful on the way people game, but it's also a new tech and we're super early in the adoption curve. What you experience now, who uses it now, and what is provided will be materially different from how we're talking about it in 2025.

*We were 2 months from shipping DVR. It was thisclose to shipping and was awesome. Like really good, great UI, easy to use (for a DVR that was built into a console). It got cut for mostly political reasons.

Totally, in some cases that's true, and in others it has to do with leaders having pet projects (or not funding work). A lot of the stuff you've seen fall apart at Microsoft is the result of poor mid-level leadership. You can have the best dev team in the world, but if the leaders aren't customer-focused, it falls apart. And sometimes it's both.

While the studbucket lovefest continues, I really like the new Edge browser. I actually started using the Mac version last fall, and it was part of why I moved back to Windows.

It's been my main desktop browser ever since. I do have it on my iPad and iPhone, but still mostly use Safari. But that may change as it seems to be syncing with my phone now.
