It is software. It will get fixed, if it hasn't been already. If there was some inherent problem with the NIC that has forced 11th hour architecture changes delaying games and whatnot... that'd have me concerned. Last thing I'm worried about on the Xbox One is the OS and related apps and functionality.

The report said future (non launch games) have already been delayed due to this issue. I'm sure it will get worked out in time, but my question for that is...

If it's set up like the ps3 (in terms of voice chat) and the ps3 couldnt support voice chat due to not having enough system memory... What does the fix for this mean in the long run for the XBone and its already (internet) maligned memory situation?

I guess it all depends on what was truly wrong and how they decide to fix it, but I don't think that memory will be a problem. Both consoles are reserving a large chunk of their 8GB ram for OS functions like this, something that the PS3 couldn't do because there simply wasn't enough to go around. I don't see this as being anything more than a short term issue for them.

Edit: It's not surprising that an OS will have launch issues. I'm sure the PS4 OS will have it's share of launch issues as well. If the issues take months rather than weeks to sort out though, it could affect the general perception of the console.

Someone I work with got his hands on the Xbox One last week and said it was pretty sweet, but said they had to restart the system every once in a while. I never really put it all together to think it was a system crash or freeze. I can't say publicly where the event was or anything like that, but if it really comes to it, a mod can contact me and I will explain to them for "proof".

After all of this, I'm not sure I want to spend $500 on this...

If it was at the London event by any chance, there's video out there from it already of the XBone being froze at start up and having to be reset multiple times with it still not working and the guy filming was asked to stop filming.

I personally think Next Gen could have waited til next year. After GTA and a few other games. Current gen can make it another year. I got a feeling both consoles are not truly ready. But that's what warranties are for I guess. Lol. MS or Sony, nobody wants a $400-$500 electronic paper weight.

The article said if the game is the only app running, everything was fine. I wonder if they cannot have a complete fix by launch if they could just do a quick fix by disabling the multitasking stuff so at least playing games would be stable. They would take a hit by not having heavily hyped things working, but at least you wouldn't have freezes and restarts and the system would be usable.

I guess it all depends on what was truly wrong and how they decide to fix it, but I don't think that memory will be a problem. Please, correct me if I'm wrong. I'm on my phone so going completely from memory with nothing to reference here.

Isn't MS reserved memory basically broken into 3 1GB chunks for the OS and two separate hypervisors running, meaning that stuff is already "spoken for" so they'd have to allocate even more space? While Sonys is much more flexible in terms of the devs can eat up a large chunk of that "reserved" memory if they so choose?

While I'm not disagreeing that 1080p is noticeably better than 720p, that's not a very good example. Most of the time, cable and satellite providers compress their signals. If you set your bluray player to just output 720p, the picture is going to be a lot better than a ESPN 720p broadcast.

I think there are supposedly still problems with online/XBL in general, so this would only benefit those who play offline.

If you are playing something that is native 1080 there is a huge difference. Hooking a 360 up to it will hardly be noticeable.
