But as I said, I'll probably be buying a PS4, but I understand the pricing difference.
I'm in a similar situation. I have owned every system but currently only have a ps3 and wii u. On next gen however I'm going Xbox one. I have kids now and I think the kinect will better cater to them and the One exclusives are games I'm more interested in(Forza for example).

Just look at how espn is in HD, but it doesn't look that sharp because it's 720p while bluray movies are 1080p and they look amazing.

While I'm not disagreeing that 1080p is noticeably better than 720p, that's not a very good example. Most of the time, cable and satellite providers compress their signals. If you set your bluray player to just output 720p, the picture is going to be a lot better than a ESPN 720p broadcast.

It's a rail shooter. If you've ever played any games in the Panzer Dragoon series, that's what you should expect.

Games like Dead Space: Extraction, Pokemon Snap (in a non-violent way), Virtua Cop, a couple of the Resident Evil non-numbered games and Starfox 64 are all examples of rail shooters - if you haven't played any / don't recognize the term.

...studios have to make a decision. Do they want their game to look good, play well and maintain a solid frame-rate? If so, compromises have to be made and screen resolution is an easy change to make that has a dramatic effect on the frame-rate (900p, for example, is only 70 per cent of the number of pixels in a 1080p screen). This will likely be the main driving reason behind the resolution choice for the launch titles and won't be any indicator of console "power"...
If one console doesn't need to make those compromises (or needs to make them less frequently) while the other one struggles trying to pull off less, how is that not indicative of console "power?" Is he using power to refer to the electricity it takes to run them?

I dunno, I'm on the side of a service you have to pay for (and the 360's huge advantage over the PS3) being broken and crashing everything a pretty big deal. Especially when it's talked about months being fixed and this has been an issue for the short life of the console.

Granted, if this is broken and keeps going on nobody will have to pay for XBL.

It is software. It will get fixed, if it hasn't been already. If there was some inherent problem with the NIC that has forced 11th hour architecture changes delaying games and whatnot... that'd have me concerned. Last thing I'm worried about on the Xbox One is the OS and related apps and functionality.

                              Jeff Gerstmann weighs in:

There might actually be something to this.

I'd agree though that this isn't the HUGE cataclysmic deal that people were hinting at, especially if it gets fixed in a few weeks or before launch. If it really will take months and eat into Christmas time, though... I could see a lot of potential returns if online is completely messed up and people can't play or chat with friends, especially from COD diehards who might already feel like they're getting an inferior version due to the whole 720p thing.

Edit: VVVV He usually (rightly) brushes off speculation, so maybe he knows something.
