    Re: Xbox One

We're hosting Christmas this year, so I haven't had a chance to hook up my One, yet. I did finally get my hands on the new controller. Feels great to me. Can't wait to actually play with the thing.

Peggle is fun. Not sure how I've never played it before. The auto-DVR is a little excessive though, lol.

Also, for using Amazon Instant Video recently they sent me a $5 credit towards select games, many of which are already $10 off.

Got this as well, but since Forza is already $40, I can't use the coupon.

          1. No matter how cool it is I really don't need or want my TV running through my console so would it still be worth it to get an XB1 if I'm only going use it for gaming? Also I don't game on my home theater tv I use a smaller tv in my gaming room so that's partly why I really don't care about connecting it to the XB1.
I'd say yes, since Microsoft is winning the excluisive war so far. Plus, XBL is still more stable and better for online, social, and update needs. Things like Drivatars in Forza 5 thrive on the cloud and produce a serious social experience without necessarily playing live with anyone.

          2. I also have no interest in using connect so after the initial set up can I disconnect it and still have the XB1 play games with no issues?
To be honest, I use the controller to navigate the interface 90% of the time, even with Kinect up and running. It can be disconnected with no serious issues.

          3. What does the XB1 have for audio outputs?
Either HDMI or optical. The only issues, which should not concern you, is that some people have trouble getting surround from their DVR's. But everything generated from the console works perfectly.

            1) right now, probably not. without kinect or tv, the best feature right now would probably be the snap feature. you can play games while watching netflix / hulu / etc.
I think Kinect and the TV features are great, but I had my XBO running on a separate input for a couple of weeks because I was having trouble getting 5.1 from my Tivo.

But it is absolutely a great gaming machine. All of the multiplatform games are there, but Forza 5, Dead Rising 3, Peggle 2, Powerstar Golf, Zoo Tycoon, Killer Instinct, Halo: Spartan Assault and Ryse are also solid to awesome titles worth owning. And you don't need TV or the Kinect to snap Machinima while playing, which will load up video walkthroughs of whatever game you are playing, although the Kinect does make it a bit "snappier."

With games like Titanfall, Quantum Break, Project Spark, and Sunset Overdrive coming, there is plenty of reason to own an Xbox One whether you use TV or not.

Was great! Wasn't expecting it at all. We're both enjoying it but man the install times are horrendous. After having my PS4 since launch, I got spoiled with the quick install times.

Yup. I don't know what Microsoft was doing with those install times.

Imo the day one patch installed pretty fast. Lego got to where I could play pretty fast too...nothing where I was mad or noticing it

                      Re: Xbox One

I don't work on anything relating to the games or installations, but I heard from the support guys (when I was down at the call center), that when you install a game, all the updates are downloaded and installed at the same time, but we never show any progress indicator.

The trick/workaround was to disconnect your Xbox One from the network, install the games, then reconnect when you are ready to download updates.

There were a bunch of early reports of game installs getting stuck at 0%, when really it was just updates downloading and it wouldn't get past 0% until those were done.

Day one patch installed fine. Installing the games took awhile longer than expected though.

I'll try this when I install my last game (Ryse) and let you know how it goes.

It's worth a try, but I think it's only for discs.
