I think the other thing to realize is that industry simply isn't the same as it was in 2005/2006. Those mid-tier games that filled release schedules are gone and they've been replaced by the "Indie" scene. Also, PC is a much stronger presence then it was at the start of the 360/PS3/Wii generation.

Re: Xbox One
Hope you guys aren't switching to XBox One hoping for better games because it's not exactly all gravy over here either. Next Gen in general has been a disappointment to me so far. Last console generation we had a lot of good content by this time (almost 2 years) in the cycle. Not really Microsoft or Sony's fault though.
With that said, I'm still an XBoxer and looking forward to what is to come.
Right now my friend got his 1tb xbox one
used the gift card to buy witcher 3 and also bought batman and Horizon 2
That is an awesome way to start the xbox one life cycle.
He has Halo 5, Gears of War remastered, Tomb Raider and Forza 6 to look forward to not to mention Madden early, NBA 2K16 Fifat 16 early and Battlefront, COD BO 3
How awesome is that...Not to mention Elite Controller for those big shooters coming and a whole new OS which is really snappy and fast.
Not to mention EA Access
I just got the beta code for the BF4 preview members only tryout to test new features and weaponsComment

Re: Xbox One
Killer Instinct is an amazing revival made by the most unlikely of studios (Double Helix) and then underwent a change in developers (Iron Galaxy) that led to some crazy season 2 characters.
Sunset Overdrive is a crazy game that flew criminally under the radar. So much fun and havoc in an open world.
Ori and the Blind Forest featured tight gameplay and a beautiful art style. Probably my game of the year so far in 2015.
I have Ori, but haven't started it yet. Heard it was great though.Comment

Re: Xbox One
I bought Sunset Overdrive and did not expect much from it, I ended up loving it. Ori was so good. I definitely recommend picking it up.Comment

Re: Xbox One
Regarding deals, if it's still going on, the deal at the Microsoft store is the best overall deal. My friend purchased the 500GB Xbox One Halo: MCC bundle with Assassin's Creed Unity, Dragon Age Inquisition as the free game of choice (he wanted Batman or Witcher 3 but both were sold out) and the $50 credit to the Microsoft store. He's going to sell off Halo: MCC, Unity and Inquisition and when he adds in the $50 credit, the console itself will end up costing $200 at most so if that's still available, I would say that's the best deal by far.Comment

The new console is 1TB with Halo MCC and the new controller with the fixed bumpers and 3.5 mm jack
That to me is far more important then DA or $50 creditComment

Re: Xbox One
Re-sale tanking on those titles too, with DA about to hit Early Access, Unity (w/ Black Flag) can be had on Ebay for relatively cheap (bought my digital voucher for $25) and Halo: MCC is currently $35 w/ the Summer Sale.
As for the previous posts... I own Sunset Overdrive... just can't get into it. The whole sliding on rails thing just doesn't do it for me after games like Prototype and now Batman. Maybe I just haven't played it enough to get the hang of it and it'll click. It's installed and not going anywhere, so maybe one day.Comment

The worst part is the consistent remakes, re-masters, definitive editions, etc. of games from the 360 and PS3 generation which im not a fan of at all especially when they've been released so close to when the original versions were released (Tomb Raider and The Last of Us are perfect examples). Also, too many Indie games, season passes, DLC, visual downgrades, constant delays and more. And the majority of games being released still being cross-gen doesn't help.
With all of that said, I personally haven't been disappointed with the games that I have played and completed but im pissed off with games being delayed because of re-masters or collections. Will admit it...instead of Uncharted 4 being released in November, it gets delayed until March 2016 and in my opinion, it's due to the Uncharted collection and The Last of Us Re-mastered.
Personally, Naughty Dog should have went straight to Uncharted collection and Uncharted 4. Uncharted collection makes sense because it releases a few months before Uncharted 4. The Last of Us, not at all. Then, there's single games that are part of a franchise...Gears of War and God of War III. First, I think that both should include the entire four game franchise and second, they should be released within six months of the upcoming Gears of War 4 and God of War IV.
To me, that would make the most sense. After that, my next complaint is the backwards compatibility (which isn't going to impact sales as much as some may think) and PS Now. Both are a waste of time and money. Here's why - instead of concentrating on either A) new IP's or B) sequels to existing IP's, publishers are trying to make cash grabs by releasing stuff you've already paid for. Now, for backwards compatibility, I don't know if Microsoft has to pay third parties for them to agree to make their Xbox 360 games backwards compatible but if they do, im sorry but that's a waste of money, time and resources especially when the payback is going to be minimal at best.
There's TWO very powerful consoles on the market in PS4 and Xbox One and yet, there hasn't been a SINGLE game on EITHER console that has been revolutionary or groundbreaking period. If you still have an Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 or both, you're not missing much especially when the majority of games are cross-gen and with the exception of Shadow of Mordor's nemesis system, the only difference with cross-gen games is in upgraded visuals (if that).
Back to the ten games that I have completed, only ONE out of the ten have hit a 9/10 on my scale. Majority are in the 8 range with two at 7/10. The first true great game in my opinion is The Witcher 3 which is easily a 9/10 and will most likely hit the very rare for me 9.5/10 rating. Is The Witcher 3 revolutionary or groundbreaking? I would say no but in fairness, the reason why I haven't been disappointed like the majority of this generation of gamers have been is simple - my expectations are lower and the reason for that is simple - quite honestly, what can developers/publishers do that is revolutionary and/or groundbreaking?
Answer - nothing because it's pretty much the same as what you already played last generation. With the exception of visuals, there's little to no difference. The last true great games that were revolutionary and/or groundbreaking in my opinion would be Uncharted 2 and Gears of War 2. And while there's games in between, long before those, it would be Super Mario 64 and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
Nowadays, you'll be lucky as hell if you get ONE game for each respective console that ends up being revolutionary and/or groundbreaking. What you will get though - is good to excellent games but nothing that should even be considered a perfect game or get a perfect score. And that's where im at - just hoping for good to excellent games that are/were worth playing. Anything past that, for me personally, not even close.
Sorry about the long post and rant but when you put favoritism aside, this generation doesn't offer anything revolutionary and/or groundbreaking or that can't be found in the last generation on Xbox 360 and/or PlayStation 3. Of course, this is just my own personal opinion.Comment

Re: Xbox One
For Xbox One, he's not going to play it until Rise of the Tomb Raider. After that, he's interested in Quantum Break (we both are and hoping Remedy doesn't screw it up) with Scalebound and Gears of War 4 being 50/50.
I at the very least will try a lot of games and granted, it's mainly due to being a Best Buy GCU member but I figure, worse case scenario, game turns out to be a $5 rental. No biggie. My friend - nope. I had a long conversation with him last night as he was playing Arkham Knight and I was playing Witcher 3. He was thinking about buying Witcher 3 but decided against it because he's not into the RPG genre anymore, won't do the majority of stuff in the game (for example, all the "?" symbols, he'll ignore majority of them where as I want to go to each one and see what's there) so he just sticks with his favorites and what he think will be a solid choice.
Basically, im a casual gamer but he's an extremely casual gamer. LOL.Comment

Re: Xbox One
He knows but he figures that he'll get at least $100 total for Halo: MCC, Unity and Dragon Age. Two of them are disc based and sealed. I think that he'll get close as he usually does.Comment

Re: Xbox One
You just listed 4 titles I could play on my xbox 360.
Only exclusive next gen titles worth mentioning at this point are Witcher 3, Dying Light, Bloodborne, Mortal Kombat X and maybe Evolve.
At this point in the previous generation here are exclusive new gen titles we would've had:
Gears of War, Oblivion, Saints Row, Motorstorm, Forza Motorsport 2, Resistance: Fall of Man, Dead Rising, and Rainbow Six Vegas
And in the next 6 months we would be getting:
Assassin's Creed, Halo 3, Bioshock, Mass Effect, Call of Duty 4, Uncharted
There is no way current gen has a chance of meeting the bar set by last gen at this point in the cycle.Comment
