    Re: Xbox 720

Phobia, I wonder if they are letting the controller be what it traditionally has been and then counting on a Windows 8 phone or other mobile device to do other things (ie. Smartglass). I would think that is a smart way to go about it.

To me it seems like everything is coming together now. With the 360 we saw things introduced that will be greatly enhanced this go around. The three big things to me would be Xbox Live, Kinect and then the ability to use a mobile peripheral.
Being kind, one to another, never disappoints.

It would make more sense in a console though. All these interesting things people are doing with Kinect on Windows? They can just make an app and millions can download it.

There isn't much new there that hasn't already been rumored really outside of that. Hard to really believe it could be as wide open as he says, really opens the door to a lot of junk and the W8 Store is full of that already as it is. Would have to come with some significant curation/moderation mechanisms.
It won't be wide open like that, and I doubt it would have the full WinRT, that's too bloated for a console like this.

You also couldn't just write an app to do the share stuff like the PS4, Sony has put in hardware specifically for that, to constantly encode video like a DVR. You need processing time to do all that, and a WinRT wouldn't be able to utilize the 360 SOC without some major additions, meaning more bloat. MS could theoretically use the 360 SOC for the video encoding, but since it's going to require all games being offloaded to the HDD, you are soon going to saturate a mechanical HDD's throughput.

The 360 SOC also doesn't make much sense to me as a secondary processor within the system, it's going to need it's own ram, sitting behind the CPU is going to make the ram too slow, but maybe that's why we saw where so much ram is going to be unavailable to the CPU/GPU, because a chunk is sitting next to the 360 SOC rather than the CPU.

I also don't see it being used as a parallel processor used with the main Durango system, the 360 processor and GPU aren't that fast, not enough to make up for all the added latency and complexity.

Ultimately, I have my doubts about the veracity of this, based on the acrid language and general content.

        this.

basically will mean the backwards compatible for the next xbox will be handle by mostly hardware instead of software emulation like it was with the 360 playing xbox games. so it should mean any 360 game will play on the next xbox.

You doubt the whole thing or just the 360 SOC inclusion?

I doubt the guy knows anything.

360 SOC is possible, it'd be a LARGE expensive chip, but if MS is hell bent on leveraging old 360 games on this non-console set top box, it would make some sense, otherwise it would make more sense to use a more specialized media processor.

Offloading game tasks to this other processor would be a pain in the ***, being a completely different architecture, bottlenecks, etc. You could use the 360 processor for something like Kinect and OS, offloading that from the main APU, and that would make much more sense considering both platforms need both of those.

The 360 SOC isn't outlandish, not requiring always on isn't outlandish, but the tone of the post and some of the finer details felt a bit message board troll.

You guys think the 720 is gonna be hard to get like the 360 was(Might also had to do with the systems breaking left an right)

I remember I had to sit in a 12 hour Wal-Mart smack dab in the middle of the store where they had 5 chairs that formed a circle an we had to sit there until closing to reserve our Xbox. I was just lucky enough to go get a chair because my mom called me an said something about it because she knew I had been saving for one an then she payed someone to give me a reserve chair. Yes she saved the day

I was excited because I knew in my very small town I was the only one that had one an when I got to go to school it was sweet lol. Then a week later it red ringed an I had to wait like 2 week, but the awesome thing was is that they upgraded my Xbox to the premium version for free(The one with the hard drive) I was only able to get the core version.

Ahh memories I was 15 then a I'm going on 23 an I'm ready to do it again lol. Like I said you think it will be hard to get or will the supply be better in you opinion?

Until the last sentence of your post, I'd never realized the 360 was that old.

I really didn't like that Microsoft waited so long to show this thing off (especially with all the off-putting info that was coming out till the last bunch of it if its true), but I kind of like the fact that we won't have to wait too long to see what games are coming out on the system after it's revealed. Definitely cannot wait for E3 this year.

E3 is going to be great. At first, it was a little puzzling that a) they waited this long b) they wouldn't just wait a couple extra weeks and show it off at E3 for the first time.

But now that I think about it, I think it's actually good news. Use the 21st to show off the console, and use E3 to show off the games. Can't wait to see what's in store.

I think they'll get more pop out of this and then going into E3 vs. Sony who's lost a bit of the momentum since their announcement.

Probably not a big deal, but the rumors and talking is all Xbox not PS4
