Amazon is what we prefer, but nothing really beats VUDU as I understand it. Not sure if that's limited to their HDX streams or the service as a whole.

        Re: Xbox One

Well, we don't rent. We own over 200 pieces of content on Amazon. It's streamed to our phones, our consoles, and shared with our kids (2 and 4) Kindles.

        So yeah, we're invested

Quality is good, won't claim anything beyond that and all transfers depend on the source (older titles most services are usually kinda lacking when displayed in HD) and I have some big pet peeves. My biggest is bonus features. They dump them at the end of movies. We just bought MockingJay Pt 2... it has a commentary. Instead of being able to sync and serve alternate audio the movie is just played twice back to back, look at it on Amazon and it's listed as over 7 hours, lol.

Star Wars mitigated this by having a separate bonus features 'movie' for each movie. But buying the collection littered our catalog w/ them.

Anything we know we won't enjoy or watch a bunch (most recent purchases are Mockingjay, Good Dinosaur and Aladdin, for example) we just wait for a buffet streaming service to get (HBO, Showtime, etc) as we have access to all of them via the DirecTV account my parents have.

Otherwise we're just OTA, no DVR except for the 30 minute buffer on the Xbox One. Netflix and Amazon are our most used media consumption apps.

Closest thing we come to renting is UFC PPVs, heh.

you are right, you cant. When I rent from amazon i just use my phone/surface/computer to do the rental, then it shows in my library and can be played from there in the xbox app.

I've used Amazon, Vudu, and the Xbox Movies (I think that is what is is called? Used it when they had some .99 rentals a few times)...I didn't notice any having any significant quality boosts over the others. Didn't have any constant buffering in any either.

That makes more sense....where the app doesn't let you browse/rent, but if you do it on a phone/pc then it'll show up in the app available for you....

Wait, how do you even do that? I've rented movies from Amazon before on my laptop. I stopped because HDCP requirements did not let me play them in HD from my laptop to my TV.

I've have the Amazon app, but have never noticed/tried to rent from my laptop and then see if it shows up on the Xbox.

That should work if you are using HDMI. Anything else lacks the copyright protection I believe (not sure about display port)

There is something stopping it. I should clarify it goes through a Yamaha receiver (but then so does everything else). I haven't bothered to try and fix it.

I never tried pc to tv so can't comment on that. But on the xbox app you can browse prime movies as well as see your library. The library includes prime movies added to your watch list, any purchased digital movies, and any paid rentals. So if you pay for a rental on pc, it goes into the library and can be selected from there in the xbox app. That's how i watch rentals 90% of the time.

Lords of the Fallen is free with gold this month. I played it a year ago and really enjoyed it. It's a Dark Souls clone but slightly less hard core. It's not quite as tough as Dark Souls overall but it's still a very tough game. I highly recommend it to any Dark Souls fans if you want something to hold you over until Dark Souls 3.

Will the Xbox One ever support a 4K pass through? Ever since I've got the Rogers 4K cable box, I've been missing out on the pass through function, voice control etc. Is it a hardware issue, or can it be done with a patch?
I am the lesson after the fall.

The Xbox One can't currently support 4K output, as that's a hardware issue. I am unsure if 4K input can be supported in software, or if it's just hardware, I'll have to look. There are so few 4k STBs, that we hadn't considered it yet.
