I'm not quite following either. If anything it seems to be more clear what the differences are between the cards compared to the 970/980 release.

Its been close to 2 years since the release of 970/980 (Sept 2014). I think for a 2 year turn around, a 1070 dropping for around the same price point as the 970 but greatly improved performance wise doesn't seem shady, If anything I welcome it!

Their whole pricing with the Founders Edition is being setup so they can milk more money out of people's pockets. At $699 for the Founders, they are saying MSRP is going to be $599, yet we know AIB's are going to be well over $699 mark. I've owned nothing buy NVIDIA cards, come on man, you can't be blind to them overpricing their cards.

Overpricing their cards? Last I checked, people were still buying them. It's not like AMD is not a competitor. If they were a ripoff, you'd see AMD dominating the market.

I don't know exactly what angle you're trying to play here and it's confusing.

Don't get me wrong here, I am not the only person around that sees these GPU prices going a bit out of control. I know it has been almost 2 years since new GPU's. I've had 980, 970, and was close to buying a 980 Ti and even tried out a 390 for a short period of time.

I should of been a bit more clear, I think the "Founders Edition" isn't priced right. Even though the MSRP is $379 and $599 for both AIB cards, do we honestly think that the 1070 and 1080 will have decent cards from the AIB's that low? Analysts are predicting $449 for 1070 AIB and $750 on 1080 AIB. I do hope that they are wrong, but I am not the only one that sees this and there are a lot of others on tech boards that feel the same.

The reason why NVIDIA can price how they want is due to AMD not being competitive and almost driving themselves out of business.

For anyone in the know, would I have any issues upgrading my R9 280x to a 1070 with my current specs?

            i5-4570 @ stock (3.2Ghz) with 16 GB DDR3 and a Seasonic G-550 PSU.

                Cheers.

Didn't want the CPU to bottleneck or anything.

1080 TI and new Titan specs leaked. Looks like I will hold off for the TI or Titan. That 24GB of VRAM on the Titan is insane.

Some rumored specifications for the unannounced Pascal 1080Ti and Titan graphics cards have been leaked, showing them to be absolute powerhouses.

It's a rumor. Take it with a grain of salt.

I'm not holding my breath. Having a hard enough time trying to save for a 1080. Can't imagine how much that Titan gonna cost.

AMD's new card looks like something I'll probably use for my new HTPC.

AMD might be pulling me away from the 1070 if the claimed bench marks turn out to be true.

I'm already trying to justify replacing my 390. I'm probably going to wait for Vega though.

My 290 is still going strong and I run pretty much everything out there maxed out, because I'm still at 1080p. Since I plan on staying at 1080p for a while this RX480 might be the answer which fits perfectly performance to price point for me to upgrade.
