That's where I'm disconnected from you, the games the PS4 pushed didn't "wow" me like they did you. I was more wowed by the X1's entertainment/living room features, which you couldn't care less about.

I do agree with you though, I want more info and will consider both consoles. I feel both companies have released so little info, so it's hard to tell.

Separate question (to those who have the Vita as well). Are devs using the touch pad a lot (or in great ways)? Do you think they'll use it well on PS4? To me it seems like a throwaway tech that will get forgotten pretty fast (similar to the crap Sony pushed on us with the motion controls on PS3 at launch).
yes touchscreen is used on different types of games. I'd originally have thought, throwaway tech, but I've come to enjoy the Vita/Touch Pad/Screen experience a lot more than I thought I would have.

For example :Uncharted, when you find some of the heiroglyphics or artifacts, you uncover them by wiping them off on the screen. There's some things such as taking pictures that you move the Vita around and focus using the back touch pad. It is also implemented in some of the hand to hand combat cut scenes using different swipes. Also locks and such can be turned with touch. That's an action game that I think the touch controls actually did make things a little more enjoyable imo, which was suprising to me because I thought it would be a gimmick that I'd rather use just buttons - Which I still use buttons a lot , but do find myself actually use the touch pad controls

LBP uses it, a new Tearaway game will use it as a vital part of the game. The Fifa games use it for passing or shooting accuracy. Those are just few examples off the top of my head where it does get used and may add to the game.

As far as menus and things like that go, it's very useful to just swipe forward or back to go from current menu to previous , etc. So I can see it used there as well rather than buttons

Microsoft isn't, in Microsoft's style guide or whatever, they only want it to be called "Xbox One" or "Xbox One console", and they forbade creating new "x" names. This was really for people making instruction manuals and prompts in/for games and accessories, but still all they are pushing is "Xbox One".

XBone I've only personally seen used extensively at Kotaku and Neogaf.

As for the touchpad, having owned one of the old Turbotouch 360 controllers, it wouldn't do well as a d-pad alternative. It would help things like internet browsing, and I'd imagine the OS UI and store UI will be geared towards taking advantage of it. Games, since there's no screen I think it's going to have limited usefulness. If they had put maybe an e-ink screen behind it (should be cheap and battery conscious), I could see it used much more extensively.

So did the XB1 get a controller uplift too? %notpayingattention. Just curious.

Why are you posting this stuff in the PS4 thread?

Lets try to keep the confusion down by posting like this before we have 2 of the same threads.

Because I asked. I was curious. I don't go into the Xbox thread because I have no intentions of buying one. Just wondering if they made some changes to theirs too. I've heard a lot of good things about their controller.

I'm not a big fan of what they did there, specifically the D-pad.

Apparently they fixed whatever was bad about the prior one so it'll be great for fighting games and the like.

I don't really care about D-Pads though, I rarely use them. When games do use them it's like "hit up for inventory" or whatnot, so not really time sensitive.

                        But thanks anyways.

On another note. Did they say if the "drop in and out" gaming would be doable with multiple games? For instance, on my Vita it works with whatever title I have but as soon as I open a new title I have to close the current one. It would be nice to just keep all of them running in the background.

I don't think they went into that much detail. Technically, with the additional RAM on the PS4, they could open it up to a certain number of games (probably want to limit it.)

The Vita is one of the main drivers in my interest/enthusiasm for the PS4. I really like what they have done with the Vita OS, which opens up all kinds of possibilities on the more capable home console. Right now I would say the PSN features on Vita far exceed those of the PS3. Sony's leveraging and expansion upon that is going to be key going forward.

On the connected device front, I believe the PS4 will also have a HDMI passthrough. Funny thing is, my PS3 slim can already control my TV (and vice versa) to an extent through the SONY Bravia Sync function.

You likely won't be able to do more than one game. They could do it, but the back end complexity is probably not worth it. Instead it will probably work very similarly to how the Vita is set up for multitasking.

Just need to add a sleep capability to each game such that it's offloaded RAM usage could be saved to disc. Games would need to support it however if that mode was available to ensure they could sleep/wake properly. It's doable by both MS/Sony on the systems.
