I'm thinking my hard drive is starting to die or something. PS4 cut off again on it's own again last night. This time while it was in stand by mode for a good 4 hours. I was working on the PC and all I heard was a click and off the PS4 went. Tried to turn it back on, wouldn't come on at all. You could hear the hard drive start to spin up but stop spinning after 2 seconds.

Turned it on now, didn't come on after the first button press, but it did on the second attempt. Looked on Youtube, a good amount of other people having the exact same issue. Some started having after the 1.61 update, others after the 1.62 update.

So is the update possibly related to the failure?

If so then what would the HDD have to do with it?

If it is the HDD then all you're going to need to do is upgrade to a larger HDD.

Win win right there.

Don't know if it is the update or the HDD. I'm starting to lean towards the update because the HDD isn't making a constant clicking sound like HDD do when they start to die. Even on Sony's support forum you have people posting the same problem after the 1.62 update.

All I know is I didn't have any problems until that update.

Well if enough people are having this same issue as you post update, then hopefully they'll address it and issue another update/patch.

I got one too. I can't get passed the agreement page, though. I need to enter a CAPTCHA code, but don't see a text field to actually input it. Maybe Chrome is screwing up. I'll try another browser.

I wonder what some connections are between people having HD issues since the patch. Region, stand by mode vs total power off, launch system vs post launch, stuff like that.

Definitely troubling. Amy Hennig leaving and now this. ND is traditionally such a great company to work for too.

Maybe this is a stand for Hennig.

Druckmann and Staley are reportedly blamed for Hennig leaving...

“We can confirm that Amy Hennig has left Naughty Dog. Amy has made significant contributions to the game industry and we appreciate all she has done for Naughty Dog. The development timeline of Uncharted will not be impacted.”

Apparently Hennig’s last day was March 3rd. Druckmann and Straley are alleged to be behind the departure and “Uncharted may now come under their control”. The unconfirmed reports come from “numerous trusted sources close to Naughty Dog”.

Hennig had not long celebrated her her 10th anniversary with Naughty Dog where she’d worked as director and writer on all three of the main Uncharted trilogy. While there’s no comment from Hennig herself she tweeting Uncharted related stuff up until the end of February and tweets from last November seemed to show her in the mo-cap studio with Todd Stashwick, the only confirmed actor currently for Uncharted 4.
