    Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion

Thanks for the info Enigma. I just checked the slim's tech release. I was aware of the 4K Ultra HD but also thought it received a power boost too. I'm surprised it isn't.

We probably should be creating a PSVR thread since not everyone is interested in it but this is what I'm hoping to see and Oculus believes we're 15 years away.

While position tracked controllers like Oculus Touch will allow us to bring our hands into VR, there’s still plenty of areas to improve on until the tech reaches an experience akin to Star Trek’s iconic Holodeck experience. According to Oculus VR itself, those kinds of experiences are 15 years out.

"Everyone wants the Holodeck, but we’re not there tomorrow. We’re not there in the next five years. In about 15 we’ll be there," he told Pocket-lint.

He does, though, believe each step along the way will improve the chances.

"We’ll get there incrementally. We’ll basically attack different sets of problems and we’ll try to make the experience as good as possible."

It is because we are all in one giant 'holodeck'

Are you living in a computer simulation? Here you can peruse the debate that followed the paper presenting the simulation argument.

Agreed about the PSVR thread. Maybe I will create one this evening!

My realistic comment was in response to you wanting Star Wars in 1080P/60FPS. Unless Neo sells very well, there's no monetary incentive for EA to release a patch for a game that will be a year old. Publishers would have to release a patch for you to play Star Wars the way you want. You can't just buy a Neo, connect it and expect Star Wars to just be 1080P/60FPS when you start the game. Doesn't work that way and this is a fact as it's been said and documented for months. Wasn't regarding anything else.

Here's what I think happened with why Neo wasn't shown at E3. Sony became aware of how powerful Scorpio is and knew that spec wise, Neo isn't even close so they decided to not show it because instead of the games being shown becoming the focus, it would be the inferior specs of the Neo. By not showing it, they avoid the entire Neo topic and situation. The difference between Neo and Scorpio is clear as day. Scorpio is far more powerful and Microsoft is losing 2-1 in sales. Also, by the time it releases, it will be the same as Xbox to Xbox 360.

Yeah, Sony could delay Neo and increase the specs but doing so would also cost more money to do so and I think at this point, they'll just release it and whatever it sells, it sells. The main reason why I think Scorpio is smart and Neo isn't is because PS4 is better than the Xbox One and crushing everything in it's way. Scorpio is Microsoft's chance to fix that. Neo is just meh and not needed. When you're crushing everything in your path, the last thing you need to do is release a mid gen console.

The difference is that Scorpio is strong enough that it can sort of be marketed as a next gen console that's fully backwards compatible with all current Xbox One games. Both the current PS4 and Xbox One/Slim would be obsolete once Neo/Scorpio gets released but both Sony and Microsoft wouldn't actually do that. They will still sell the inferior consoles.

We don't know what the spec are for the NEO so how do we know if they had to change it or not? Again we have just had rumors. Yes Sony is crushing XBOX but considering how many mistakes Sony made last gen and yet ps3 still ended up catching up to xbox360 in sales I think it is just about impossible for xbox to sale better then PlayStation and just because Sony is crushing the console race don't mean you want to do nothing and let Xbox get some momentum on you. Again we don't know how powerful the NEO is so it could still end up powerful enough to be more like a next gen system just like the Scorpio. I don't know why you are basing things on rumors that may just be wrong. I don't like the upgrade console thing either it is to much like PC and because of this once ps5 comes out if we still do get a ps5 I am going to want a few years to make sure we don't get a ps5.5 type of thing first.

So it would either be PUMA or Zen based if they chose to do so, which is the next revision and more efficient CPUs from AMD. If Puma, it is a bump up from Jaguar, and still can come out this year, Zen would be early next year. They are using Polaris that initially was clocked low (911mhz), which could easily see a bump in speed due to AMD releasing a Polaris (480) this month that is 1200mhz and 5.5TF due to the speed bump. I would not be shocked if they went with GDDRX to feed as well.

Either way, I am getting one, and it will be a big jump from the PS4 spec wise, not to mention 4K output for UHD Blueray for my 4K TV.

I agree with this. It is definitely something you feel. It will not be a fad, due to every entertainment giant, as well as non-entertainment companies, even NASA, is backing this tech unlike anything we have seen since the first home computers.

It may not be for 'everyone' surely as anything is, however, those who have NOT tried it, have no leg to stand on with opinions as to it's ability, etc..

It truly is amazing. It was in the early 90's when I tried the 15fps arcade shooter in the mall, and from what I hear, this is a million times that (obviously). Finally we are at the point where the tech is there for home versions. And as anything with tech, it will just mature and get better, as well as come down in price.

I am mostly interested in the educational like games, or the 'travel to other places' experiences, more so than games. Being able to visit the Great Pyramids, Maccu Picchu, The Moon, Mars!!! And these developers are porting those very PC applications to the PSVR as well.

Oh I see and I don't have a 4k TV yet but will most likely have one in a few years when my lap goes out on my current HDTV and right now 4k bluray's cost to much for me to want to start getting them right now. I may get a NEO in a few years and then want once ps5 comes out for a ps5.5 or something.

I still have a 2007 LCD to but it is only 720p that up scales to 1080p and it is 37 inch TV. With how much TV's have gone down in price and with how great 4K TV's do look I would like to upgrade to a like 50-60 inch 4k TV.

Downloaded the PS4 system update and The Witcher 3 patch 1.22 yesterday within ten or so minutes combined. What took the longest was the "preparing" aspect for The Witcher 3. Other than that, both downloads were quick.
