First EA Access and now this lol. Can't wait to see people defend this, I'm glad we have our Sony overlords to tell us what's good and bad for us as consumers.

For the players, though!
Seriously, I think the EA Access thing was less about "good player value" and more about, "Damn, this is going to take us a long time to adjust our systems to support this", regardless of what they said. We all know how long Sony takes for some things.
So just thinking with how close the Pro comes out to Holliday time and black Friday do you guys think there will be any good sales on the Pro? Like say for 350 instead of 400 or so maybe you get a 50 gift card or something?
Zero chance Sony offers a sale on their PRO. They are releasing it before Black Friday to max their sales.
The PRO will be 400 all the way through for at least 2 years

I have been a die hard playstation guy for the past couple years, since the red ring debacle soured me to microsoft, where as before I was adamant about having both consoles. I was really close to going out and pre-ordering a pro, but since I game on a 1080 projector the only thing I was getting was really the fps improvement so I hesitated. The more I kind of take into consideration how it feels like they botched this presentation and their future plans combined with this news I'm actually kind of leaning toward picking up an S and starting a transition toward the Scorpio.
I'm content to continue along with my current PS4. No plans to purchase a 4K TV in the near future, and no real reason to trade in my PS4 towards a Slim model.
I have a 4K TV and don't see enough benefit in upgrading anytime soon. I just haven't seen anything that makes me say "I must have this". If the Pro came with a UHD player I probably would go ahead and upgrade. Since it doesn't, then I'm perfectly content with sticking with my "Vanilla PS4" for the foreseeable future.
I bet that about 80% of those claiming they will not upgrade to the PRO will change their minds around launch. Always happens or will buy one a week or two after when people with the PRO will claim is the holy grail. LOL

For a whole host of reasons and despite preordering the Pro, I have already begun this process as well. Preordered all the usual suspects for me (BF1, FIFA, 2K17 etc) on the Xbox One.
Not going to turn this into a console flame war, I'm loyal to no company (went from PS2 to 360 to PS4 as my primary systems) but Sony's attitude over the course of this generation has slowly gone from "we're for the players" to "we're Arrogant Sony again". This happened after they dominated with the PS2 and spit in our collective faces with the overpriced monstrosity that was the PS3, to the EA Access thing and now all these little decisions like mod support and poor (in comparison most months) PS Plus games and the recent price hike of PS Plus when gaming online for lag etc is still vastly superior on Xbox One.
I'm going to enjoy the Pro for what it is but Sony needs a wake-up call like they got last gen.
Doesn't say anything about vanilla PS4 patches costing money. Maybe I just read your summary wrong.
As for charging for PS4 Pro upgrade patches, that's ridiculous. I wouldn't be interested. I guess that's how Sony got some publishers on board with upgrading their existing games.
This is really starting to feel like a very bad idea.
That can't be right though? They can't seriously intend to charge for Pro patches or even allow publishers to charge for them. That's ridiculous.
