Bioware says Mass effect will be 30 on the OG and the Pro, I wonder how many other devs will choose bells and whistles over improved framerate. Unfortunately I'd imagine a lot and that undercuts the purpose of this machine as someone with no interest in 4K

 Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion

It might be something that we start to see more and more benefits/increases/boosts as time goes on, much like comparing a launch game to a current game on any system.

Personally, I think I would prefer 60fps with vanilla settings than 30fps with "high-ultra" settings, but I guess that depends on the game too. Hopefully some games offer you a choice like that, like apparently Rise of Tomb Raider doesLast edited by The JareBear; 09-08-2016, 11:03 AM."Successful people do not celebrate in the adversity or misfortune of others."

While I agree, the last thing Sony wants is an official bundle that's almost $1000. Especially next to either new product, because in marketing 101, that's what people see first.Comment

Definitely, I'll probably need to see exclusives and the like to see the boost I would need to justify the purchase (like you said, The show). Unlocked framerates at 1080P is not appealing to me.It might be something that we start to see more and more benefits/increases/boosts as time goes on, much like comparing a launch game to a current game on any system.

 Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion

 A few tidbits -

 - Mark Cerny said that the PRO was something that Sony wanted to do even before the base PS4 launched. Sorry but that's really ****** up!!! Seriously, it's amazing how much all these companies screw over the consumers and we do nothing about it.

 - Not having an 4K UHD BR player saves Sony $15 on each console sold. I would love to know what the positive/negative difference is for them on selling the Pro at $400. To me, it simply makes no sense to keep rambling on about 4K yet you don't have the drive to support what you're talking about.

 - The HDR update for the current PS4 may not be what people think it will be. It could just be an "compatibility" type thing and not true HDR. We'll know more next week.

 - HDR is more important than 4K but not only do you have to have the 4K HDTV that supports it at 10 bit with a wide color gamut, the GAMES must also support it. If the game itself doesn't, you'll get a slight upscale but that's it.

 - Despite being more a Sony/PS4 fan, I would say that the Xbox One Slim is the better bargain compared to both the PS4 Slim and PS4 Pro. Only difference is between the GPU where PS4 Pro is 4.2TF and Xbox One Slim is at 1.4TF. Granted, it's the triple the power but the real question is - what are the developers/publishers going to use that extra power for? It's been said that they always choose resolution over everything else which im not a fan of. FPS should be far more important.Comment

If we are getting technical, there is technically a slight CPU boost and slight RAM speed boost on the Pro as well. I know that is just nitpicking

I would be inclined to say that people looking at the Pro are a different bunch than people looking for the Xbox or PS4 slims. The PRO is about the power upgrade, which I firmly believe in. I love what I have heard from Digital Foundry and other sources who played the Pro at the event. I think it will be a nice rendering/stability upgrade for the PS4 lifecycle. That is just me though. The whole point of the Pro is the power upgrade and I have to think Sony is going to push devs to take advantage of it, especially as time goes on.

There are a number of details regardin the Pro I have seen tweeted out but not mentioned by Sony at all, like capturing 1080p videos and 4k screens using the share button, improved remote play

As far as the slim, other than all my friends being on PS4 and a lot of my digital games being on my PSN account, I can't find a silver lining in the PS4 Slim. I think it should be 200-250 bucks compared to the superior Xbox S you can get for 300 bucks.Last edited by The JareBear; 09-08-2016, 11:22 AM."Successful people do not celebrate in the adversity or misfortune of others."

 Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion

Xbox ones s only up scales to 4K. It doesn't render anything . Ps4 pro mode will actually render at a higher resolution and then up scaled/ checker board to 4K. Big difference. Also you will see some I,prove, nets with HDR even from 8 bit tax that only support HDR . Iv tested this and the color is richer ( though not as rich as it would be on 10 bit displays) when I turned HDR off it looked faded because my eyes got so used to it.A few tidbits -

I agree for the most part but at the same time, I want to know if the games im looking to buy in the next two months will support HDR and what the extra benefits for the games are when playing on a PRO.It is definitely an interesting discussion, regarding this.

Rise of the Tomb Raider has THREE options that the USER can choose from. That's awesome. Hoping other developers/publishers do the same.

Also, does anyone know if the Pro supports a SATA III hard drive?Comment

 Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion

Big difference IMO. There are screens that are 8 bit and 10 bit. 8 bit screens can support HDR and 10 bit screens actually support FULL HDR . However in my experience with 8 bit screens I still see improvements color wise using support for HDR. Also 10 bit screens ar your higher end 4ktvs .

I could be wrong but that's how I remember it.#1 Laker fan

 Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion

 ???

Are you suggesting Sony should have released a $2000 console 4 years ago with the PS4 Pro's features and not released the PS4? Because it would have cost an outrageous amount to do this years ago and would have probably been bigger and less efficient.

 Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion

a 10 bit HDR image is incredible and XBOX SLIm offers this if you have the tv

The Pro is a better gaming machine then the xbox slim for sure. But if you are a hard core gamer you already have the ps4

Media and casuals will be swayed buy xb slim having 4K blu ray player which many want to dismiss as not being a big deal but it is when you spend money on a 4K display. Why would you spend a couple of thousand dollars on 4K set to stream 4K? The image quality is so far from disc.

My issue with Sony is that they are releasing a PRO that improves resolution from base PS4 and offers netflix 4K streaming and talked about all these 4K terms but left out 4K UHD player. Makes no damm sense.

If that Pro had a 4K UHD player it will sell like hot cakes. I expect it to sell well the first couple of weeks but is not going to achieve the level of PS4 sales. Many with 4K displays that want to enjoy their sets will opt for the 300 slim xb1 because it will offer them what they want and the new audio codecs are being patched in soon.

Gamers should stick with the PRO if you are buying a middle tier or low tier cheap 4K displayComment
