Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
Sony to possible charge customers on PS4 vanilla for patches that include HDR code on specific titles exclusive to Sony depending on titles.
That would suck

Hope this was a misunderstanding or something. Charging people for Pro Mode patches? That is honestly an awful idea, in my humble opinion."Successful people do not celebrate in the adversity or misfortune of others."

I am assuming these patches for the older games would be voluntary and if they did charge, it would be like buying add-ons.“The saddest part of life is when someone who gave you your best memories becomes a memory”Comment

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
I have a 4K TV and don't see enough benefit in upgrading anytime soon. I just haven't seen anything that makes me say "I must have this". If the Pro came with a UHD player I probably would go ahead and upgrade. Since it doesn't, then I'm perfectly content with sticking with my "Vanilla PS4" for the foreseeable future.
Did Sony just really fail to deliver at the conference, or is it just one of those things that judging graphics upgrades on a stream just isn't a viable enough solution and we are gonna have to see it for ourselves, in person, to judge it accurately?
Some articles, like that Digital Foundry one, seem impressed by the tech, but I did read another site say it looked marginally better to them. Guess it is really gonna be an eye of the beholder kind of thing?Last edited by The JareBear; 09-09-2016, 11:47 AM."Successful people do not celebrate in the adversity or misfortune of others."

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
I have been a die hard playstation guy for the past couple years, since the red ring debacle soured me to microsoft, where as before I was adamant about having both consoles. I was really close to going out and pre-ordering a pro, but since I game on a 1080 projector the only thing I was getting was really the fps improvement so I hesitated. The more I kind of take into consideration how it feels like they botched this presentation and their future plans combined with this news I'm actually kind of leaning toward picking up an S and starting a transition toward the Scorpio."Successful people do not celebrate in the adversity or misfortune of others."

Sony needs to pump the brakes before they lose all the goodwill they've gained at the start of this gen.

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
Doesn't say anything about vanilla PS4 patches costing money. Maybe I just read your summary wrong.
As for charging for PS4 Pro upgrade patches, that's ridiculous. I wouldn't be interested. I guess that's how Sony got some publishers on board with upgrading their existing games.
This is really starting to feel like a very bad idea.Comment

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
I have already pre-ordered a PS4 Pro but if I have to pay more money just to take advantage of the system I think I'll just stick with my original PS4 and get a Scorpio next year. It's stupid to charge people more money after they already have the game just to enjoy it on the Pro. Also what does this mean for games that get released after November? Will we have to pay for 'Pro mode' in new games that come out next year?"Successful people do not celebrate in the adversity or misfortune of others."

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
Yea I wrote my summary wrong. It was for the PRO but what would stop Sony from charging on new games for the vanilla PS4?
They better come out and provide a resolution to this because this is a turn off if either console does it...
If your tv offers it and the console does then it should be freeComment

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
I was actually looking forward to the Pro and seeing how Battlefield 1 looks and plays but if I have to pay for it in order to see an upgrade then no thanks. If this is true I doubt we will hear anything from Sony for a while.Comment

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
Sony titles may charge for HDR to be activated which is a huge slap in the face for the customer but it says is based on game by game basis.Comment

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
New games should be fine, as HDR should be developed in. The issue is going back and adding 4K/HDR to games previously developed without that support. They basically want to charge an "upgrade" fee for older games that get patched with 4K/HDR.
Paying for the patch is sort of like paying extra for a deluxe version of a game with extra bells and whistles. That's the way I view it.
I still don't like it as I think it sets a bad precedent paying for patches.Last edited by LowerWolf; 09-09-2016, 12:02 PM.Comment

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
The article talks about both 4K patches and HDR patches.
I have to think it's just miscommunication. If they think after paying for more powerful hardware that people now will also pay to unlock the benefits that they just paid for, I'll be interested to see how that plays out.Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it
