    Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion

If any of you do get an S let me know, I'm on my Xbox a lot as you all know

Rough news for Sony fans and games alike, with all this stuff coming out this has solidified my decision to keep my preorder for FIFA on X1 (better there anyway because of legends) and possibly some other games.

    Not flaming Sony though

C'mon guys, it would have come in the season pass anyways.

Yeah, paying for patches I'd have to wait to see actually happen before believing it.

I am not ready for a pro I don't have 4K anything. Would it be better to grab a remaining regular ps4 or slim?

If you're still without a PS4 and the potential of games running better in 1080p doesn't matter that much to you, then a Slim is probably the way to go.

But at this point those 1080p games running better on the Pro is all rumour anyway, until we see some side by side comparison.

I mean, I am not sure it is a rumor though. I think it is confirmed that games that choose to support it can offer increased frame rate, or better rendering (or both) at 1080p. I think the article said that Tomb Raider will offer 2 different modes on 1080p for Pro. One will be locked at 30fps with extra graphical bells and whistles, and the other will be uncapped and be between 30-45 FPS or something like that

PS4 vanilla is a great 1080p console. I would not trade it in for a PRO if I had no 4K tv just to get from 1080p 30 to 1080p 60fps

Not going to end up paying 400 for ps4 when bought and then trading it in for $200 and paying another 200 plus tax for PRO which means I paid Sony 600 plus tax for a generation console that got me from 30fps to 60fps which we know will not be locked.

If I had a 4K tv then PRO all the way

What remains to be seen with the Pro is if older games like Rocket League will really have a limited framerate just for parity with the PS4 (while they play against PC users at an unlocked framerate)

Otherwise, games will absolutely run better at 1080p

That depends on if an unlocked framerate is better to you or not.

I guess my point was that until widespread support is certain, I don't think it's worth it for a 1080p display. The devs can do a whole host of things, whether they do or not remains to be seen.

Even the most glowing reports of the Pro from people there didn't have much to say about what it will do for people running 1080p displays. Most people couldn't tell the difference in those scenarios.

The options Tomb Raider allows for is impressive. But will that be the rule or the exception going forward?

The PS4 Pro is harmless, IMO

If you buy it, it is harmless. You will enjoy it.

If you don't buy it, it is harmless, you won't miss anything you can't live without.

For me, the Pro is more than worth it and currently I am a 1080p gamer. That is just me. I am allowed to feel that way. I don't think anyone is wrong or right. Not sure why how I spend my money would bother anyone else.

NYG you have said multiple times how you feel about the Pro. People are either gonna buy it or pass, and it is harmless either way. Some us really want to enjoy games at maximum rendering/fidelity, 1080p or not.

The other thing to consider is whether you need the Optical Out port. I run my audio in that fashion and the Slim doesn't support it.

Almost every YouTube video I watched from people that were there either glossed over the 1080p gameplay, used it as a comparison to show how great the Pro is with HDR and 4K enabled or mentioned they couldn't tell a tangible difference.

Not to mention alot of videos I watched the YouTuber would say "Sony didn't really do a good job explaining what the Pro does if you have a 1080p display" or some version of those words.

I'm definitely not here to tell anyone whether they should buy it or not. Much like to you it will be worth it to run in 1080p, for me if I didn't have a 4K TV I wouldn't be getting it. It's obviously a personal decision.

What I wish Sony allowed for is for people running games in 1080p to have a 60fps experience, regardless of what the other versions run in. In that scenario, I'd put my Pro on my 1080p 60hz gaming monitor and run my Shooters online on it. It's a shame we're not allowed to do so.
