Sadly, yes, you'll need to update that receiver. Supposedly, if there is an HDCP 2.2 device then all links, so to speak, in that chain need to be fully HDCP 2.2 to get 4K Ultra HD video with HDR, 60p fps, 4:4:4 color and other capabilities.

When I hooked up my Pro to the older receiver I no longer have, the display settings were not listed as full 4K in the video settings on the Pro (3840× 2160). I cannot remember exactly what the resolution was but it was slightly better than 1080p and HDR was disabled. I sort of flipped out after seeing this. As others have mentioned here, I also tried lowering the HDCP standard to 1.4 from 2.2 in the Pro "safe mode" settings hoping that would work and prevent me from having to buy a new receiver but no; didn't work. I'm assuming because the Sammy's HDMI outs are HDCP 2.2. At any rate, the only resolution was to buy a new 4K UHD HDCP 2.2 capable receiver.

In the end it was a PITA to have to upgrade all your components to the latest standards and wasn't easy on the bank account but if you appreciate your resolution, your eye candy, and need that oh so sweet, 7.2 surround sound shaking your couch, it's all worth it!

On another note, most likely your new receiver will be Dolby Atmos and DTS:X capable so here's to more "future proofing". lol

Yes Sir! Exactly what I did for the time being until I could get a new A/V unit. Just run the Pro directly to the Sammy's output box and run optical from that to your receiver. You'll get at least 5.1 which is fine for most.

No I didn't if I didn't have a ps4 then yeah it is better to get a pro but with the trade in value I got for my ps4 and with the slim being at 250 and with best buy doing the get 25 off on 100 or more a few weeks ago thing I only had to pay like $70 to go from a old ps4 to a slim and get a game to and a better controller. So really its not even like 70 really.

I could just hook my console directly to the tv then use an optical cable to get sound from the tv to the receiver right? That would give me 4k when using the console and surround sound wouldnt it? I'm hoping I can buy time this way.

There was a huge petition online started by someone on the avs forums that pressured them into doing this, otherwise this would've never come

Which Onkyo? If possible you probably want to use ARC if both the TV and receiver support it. Once we got it setup in addition for the audio going to the receiver from the TV, the receiver now turns off and on w/ the TV, and the TV remote controls the audio on the receiver.

I got an NR747 last year.

HTR391. I'll have to look into if it does. I've never used ARC.

Transferring my PS4 files to my new PS4 Pro, says it's got 15 hours left to do 700gb...well that's fine as I do need to sleep LOL but is going through the router the fastest way?

Would wiring directly from PS4 to PS4 Pro via ethernet and bypassing the router have been quicker? Just wondering...I'm going to let it ride as I won't have time to play anything until tomorrow evening anyways..

I didn't use the router, I connected directly from Slim to Pro and it transferred it all in under an hour or so.
