Sony and MS both will announce their new consoles this year for release in 2020...That means sales for both consoles will drop significantly because why spend the money on a ps4 or xbox when next year the superior version is coming out.

Even if they do that they may not show it un till late part of the year and considering how many big games Sony has I still see one big holiday season left for them with ps4.

Don't see Sony announcing/revealing PlayStation 5 until early 2020. No reason to announce a console 12-18 months out as that's just stupid. Plus, Sony has Days Gone, Death Stranding, Ghost of Tsushima and The Last of Us Part 2. PS4 will easily top 130M and if it has a price drop later this year to $200/$300 Base/Pro, they will have a legitimate shot at surpassing PS2 simply because their yearly average is higher despite the console being more expensive throughout. PS2 lasted 11 years. If PS4 lasts the same, it's easily surpassing PS2 because even when next gen hits, there's always a lot of people who purchase the older consoles because they're cheaper and can rack up a bunch of games for a cheap as hell price. Their average of 18M a year since launch is insane.

It is going to be hard to pass ps2 things where a lot different back than. I do think it will sale 130+ but I dont known if it will catch DS or ps2 going to be hard. Well in the past a lot of times you would see consoles 12-18 months out has it used to be you would see a new console for the first time at e3 and it wouldn't come out un till like holiday of the year after meaning like around 17 months later and even if they do shown it this year it may not be like a year or longer before because 1 we dont known if they would show it early or middle or late part of this year and 2 I am still leading towards ps5 comming out early 2020 like how Nintendo had the switch come out in early 2017.

What do you guys think we will see/hear about at Pax south? It starts like Friday next week and for the first time ever Sony will be there and I have not even really been able to find rumors about what may be shown/talked about. I hope we just get dates for some of 2019 games.

I'd be surprise if you heard anything, Smalls. It's basically Disneyland for Gamers. PAX stands for Penny Arcade Expo. You'll get concerts, tournaments, tabletop gaming, arcade gaming, and video gaming. A festival!

Well I known that Pax south is small but considering Sony skipped PlayStation experience in December and is going to Pax south for the first time ever it makes me think we must get some news. If we where not going to hear any thing than why go there when they never have before?

I see no chance they get to ps2 levels, with 4k become the norm in televisions and prices for 4k tvs being so cheap the fact that ps5 will do 4k and play all ps4 games means that will be the console to get and if they sell it for 400 that would mean the base ps4 will drop big time in how it sells, it is now compared to 3 years ago.

dont matter when sony announces ps5 either this year or early next year the vast majority of people know this is coming and that would be the console, if it would not play ps4 games I would agree with you but it will so unless they price it above 400 i see no way ps4 reaches ps2 levels.

I simply wouldn't be surprised if PS4 was to eventually surpass PS2 especially if the console is sold for 11 years like PS2 was. There's also some countries in which the consoles are too expensive so they're technically a generation behind due to the price. Just wouldn't surprise me. I see PS5 being $500 at launch. $400 means that it would be underpowered and as Microsoft learned five years ago, at the very least, you have to be equal in terms of power and capabilities. I'm hoping for $500 because I want better components in the PS5 at launch instead of lowered specs and then waiting three years for a Pro version. Would prefer the power from day one especially when all the developers would be able to take advantage of from day one instead of years later.

At the very least, PS4 will end up being the second best selling console of all time. But we'll see. As for PS5, im sticking with my prediction of February 2020 reveal, E3 return and blowout with a November 2020 release.

I believe that PS5 will be PS4 backwards compatible due to the chipsets being very similar and identical to PS4.

I dont think it would cost them that much but they also didn't put a 4k bluray drive in the pro so yeah who knowns. I think ps5 will be able to play ps4 and I hope it can starting to run out of like room for all my consoles over the years but at the same time I can see Sony maybe not doing it because it may make them more money. Like why make it backwards compatible and like kill ps4 sales when they could come out with ps5 and still sale like another 20-30 million ps4 or so and still have those people buy ps5 later on? I mean why would any body buy a ps4 when ps5 comes out if ps5 can play ps4 games to?

The way they are releasing mid-console life improved versions of consoles is a big part of why I'm not the least bit excited about the idea of a new console right now. There are only a handful of noteworthy games from this generation that I've played and it's been a generation of remasters too.

I just want to enjoy my PS4 Pro and 4K monitor for as long as possible and not buy a console only for a better version of it to come out a few years later.

I get why they do it, though... they announce a new 8K TV is coming and people everywhere are salivating at the thought of it because they have the income to get it while some of us are still rocking 1080 TVs in their living room. A lot of people on OS have three consoles, a $2000+ PC, 4K HDR or OLED TV, a nice 4K gaming monitor for their PC, etc.

The only good news about new tech is it drives down the cost of an upgrade on some things that I don't mind being behind the times on. I'm just over the marginal upgrades. Let the PS4 marinate and release something that's a little bit more revolutionary down the road.

I hear ya brother, I'm in the boat, Im enjoying my Pro and my 4k. Monitor as well and just want to continue. I have an X too that I had since it launched, thats on my new TV though. I don't feel we need new consoles at this moment, I know some will disagree, but is my opinion.
