    Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion

I have never had an xbox or used Xbox live, but on my ps3 downloads don't take long at all. I hear some people say that their downloads take a long time, for me that was not the case. When downloading the expansions for BF3, they took maybe 10 mins on my internet. I guess it just varies from person to person. I have never had a problem with PSN though. I think it was great definitely since it has been free. I think that PSN on the PS4 should end up being just as good as Xbox live since we will be paying for it now. I always hate when people try to compare Xbox Live to PSN currently, when one is a paid service and the other is free. I know PSN does not have all the "bells and whistles" that Xbox Live has but overall it has been fine for me this gen.

I'm simply curious what both Sony and MS are waiting for: are they looking to have hardware into the manufacturing process before announcing? I can't imagine they are still determining final hardware specs and inclusions.

I don't remember when the last generation had final announcements concerning street dates. Then again perhaps Sony is just waiting for MS to announce so they can get their console out before-hand, and perhaps MS is doing the same.
We probably wont know the official date until August/September. We pretty much know MS date (Nov. 27) as Amazon has confirmed it.

We can bet on a few things. The PS4 will probably be released before the XB1. Sony would be crazy not to have the PS4 available for Black Friday (Nov 29). Also reports have it that the PS4 is much further down the production pipe than the XB1. I would bet on it being in mid November.

Yeah, I think we are talking about two different things here. As for online multiplayer stability, I haven't had many issues with PSN, with the exception of Resistance early on. That was soon rectified too.

Download speeds can be hit or miss, and like EN said, ISP does play into it as well. I witnessed it first hand after switching providers and experiencing terrible speeds, at supposedly the same speeds. Needless to say, I switched back after a few months.

Same here. In fact my PS3 downloads are faster than my 360 downloads.

I downloaded the NCAA 14 demo on both systems. It took about 20 minutes on the PS3 and almost 2 hours on the 360.

Certainly ymmv, but PS3 slow download speeds have been widely reported and documented this entire generation. After it took well over an hour to download and install patches when I bought Resistance 3 a year or two after release I actually passed on other retail PS3 game sales because of the experience.

I wonder how many of the "slow reporters" were using wireless over wired. From what I've read, the primary people having slow download speeds were using the PS3 wireless.

Also, like someone mentioned earlier, a lot of ISPs (looking at you Comcast) have been known to throttle connections to gaming networks, P2P services, etc..

I use wireless on both of my consoles and the 360 is definitely faster than the PS3 on my end.

Just took me over 6 hours to download LBP Karting. My PS3 downloads have always been way slower than 360, but this one was a new low.

Thinks it the region like stated above.
I've tested before with downloading the same demos (with pretty close to same size) and LIVE smokes it in my area...
Hope it does get better though since we are paying now.

Also both systems were wired and of course on same network.

                                On a different note....

You know you have it bad when you dream of release day.

Was in line(at K-Mart where I never really shop) and they showed me a list of items I reserved.
I looked at the list and it had at least 10 things I didn't reserve or even exist for that matter.
I remember Madden and there was another FB game but can't remember the name. Then I seen one called Sesame Street (lol!!) and I said "I didn't reserve that".
Then I realized it said "Sesame Street- Abes Odysee" and I said yeah I want that.

After that the total came up and I went to pay and didn't have my CC. I said the wife is bringing it right now and she just left New York so it won't be long...
All the while the line was getting bigger and bigger..

                                That's when I woke up.
