Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
The hardware they chose would not be able to handle a resolution of 4K for the games. Hell, we're unsure of if they can even run 1080p at 60fps.
1080p = roughly 2 million pixels (1920 x 1080.) Everything that goes along with that.
4K = roughly 8 million pixels (3840 x 2160.)
They did a test on some nVidia Titan's somewhere I remember. It took 4 of them to get Ultra settings on Sleeping Dogs and Metro 2033 running at 60 fps at the 4K resolution. Each of those cards is $1000. $4,000 dollars alone in graphics cards to run 4K.
That's why

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
I think it takes a lot of horsepower to output to 4K, I doubt the hardware in a PS4 or XB1 can do it. You have to consider the need for better visuals in a game when you're running at a resolution that high. The next-gen consoles probably couldn't run 4K at even 30 FPS. I'm not sure what kind of video card you would need, my guess is a 2- or 3-way SLI setup to get decent quality at that resolution.
Any experts feel free to correct me. I can only imagine you need a high-end PC to play at that resolution.Comment

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
One of the other xbox developers (proelite) that posts on NeoGAF had this to say (over multiple posts) and it's even more damning than resolution:
COD running at 720p at launch is the least of Xbox One's problems at launch.
There could be a ton of bugs in the OS and in the multi-player framework that causes a really bad user experience all around. They have one month remaining so we'll see.
This is Infinity Ward we're talking about. Any decent coder would have jumped ship LONG ago instead of crunching for a COD launch title.
Given the choice between
720p COD
and
Xbox One OS that crashes / hangs once per user session. Flaky *** multi-player.
I think 720p COD is the lesser of the two evils.
I am saying 720p would be a mere annoyance compared to frequent crashes and broken Live matchmaking.Comment

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
2K's press event this afternoon will be the deciding factor as to what I do with my PS4. Hoping to be blow away by something they announce because the idea of a new console excites me, but not a single launch game has convinced me to keeping it.Comment

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
Here's a comparison image (overlaid) of 4K vs. other resolutions on a 16:9 basis.
I run 3 monitors (5760x1080 for the full resolution.) Even splayed across 3 monitors, 4K still has more pixels than I have. I have a pretty decent gaming rig, and 4K would kill my machine on high settings. Like... unplayable kill my machine.
Even then, if you are just paying attention to the 720p v 1080p from that image... you can see how much (either screen space shown or fidelity lost if the 720p image is blown up) and you can see why this is a huge deal to some people.badComment

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
My tv I play on is a 47 inch LED tv I bought the tv because I wanted to UPGRADE from my 24 inch LCD tv.... I plan on buying a PS4 to UPGRADE from my current system so why in the world would I not upgrade to the system that is better for what I'm buying it for.... GAMING and it happens to be cheaper guess I'm a little biased by the choice is simple for me...
Unless Sony completely fails and XBOX controls next gen gaming I don't plan on buying one anytime soon!Comment

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
Same. I don't generally buy a lot of games anyway and those 2 will take up more time than my wife will like anyway. I will bet by the 1st of December she will be regretting the fact that she got me a gift card to Gamestop. 2 new consoles to play with? I may have to buy her a new Ipad or something, lol.PSN: Koolie_G
