Outclassed by how big of a margin though? I mean being outclassed to some degree is a given, but the articles I have seen have said it will still be a fairly significant gap. Just to be clear when I say high end I more refering to the very lower boundaries of high end, not neccassarily high end as in running everything on ultra at 60 fps. I am trying to get a gauge on whether the extra cost of going the PC route would be justified based on the gap between the two.

It just seems based on the information we have that both MS and Sony will be looking to possible go more towards the casual end of things this gen. That has me more concerned than the specifics regarding the raw power of the systems. I will go wherever the good games are that are aimed more at core type gamers, if that happens to be the PC this gen, I would consider going that route.

The gap will be somewhat significant based on GPUs alone. The HD7xxxx series GPUs have been around for a few years now; however, if both systems uses a GPU greater than the 7800s, then the gap will be insignificant.

Its not the right place to get into the PC / Console argument, but regardless, you have to think about initial cost vs later cost, cost of games (this is a big one), and whether or not you can put up with games not working right out of the box.

It just seems based on the information we have that both MS and PS3 will be looking to possible go more towards the casual end of things this gen. I agree with you about the future of consoles and casual gaming. The major hardcore players will still release core games (Naughty Dog, Platinum Games, etc.), but I think you're going to see a lot of games filled with micro-transactions.

Really can't answer that until we see solid specs, but based on rumors PS4 GPU is par for the course for what consoles have typically went with in the past when they have used a PC GPU (XBox, 360, PS3, Dreamcast) so the gap will be no different than previous generations from that aspect. Remember that consoles get better performance from the same hardware.

Deciding factor for me is the performance of sport games. Hopefully, it'll be easier to develop on as some reports are suggesting.

            Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion

Likely a stupid question, so I welcome the education ...

When the PS3 arrived, blu ray was still on the rise and in my opinion, the inclusion of the blu ray drive gave Sony an edge. Now, we're in the pre-adoption phase for 4K. The TV sets are astronomically high, so we're probably 2 years away from seeing them hit steady production (broadcasters are estimating 2014 for TV).

Is Sony likely to look ahead if their system is meant to last 5-10 years and include this capability? Hearing that it's 5x the quality of a regular blu ray has me interested. No idea the cost, and with blu ray still relatively new (I'm sure a lot of people still watch DVDs), this might be on the bottom of the wish list.

It's unknown yet if Bluray will support 4k, they are "considering", but I say most likely it will.

As for PS4, the hardware should have no problem outputting to 4k, assuming they put a BDXL drive in (should be) it should be ready for 4k Bluray once they finalize the spec.

I have a feeling Sony is going to announce that they'll be announcing the Playstation 4 at E3 or something along those lines. If I know Sony, they never meet expectations when it comes to these teasers.
