I have prime, so the shipping option is 2 day, release day wasn't an option (yet).

If you chose 2 day and have prime, you should get it on release day. It says so on the landing page so you should be ok. I have 2 day free and prime as well.

Well sadly no release date yet, and no word on if they are going to offer different models. Is the $399 model the only release? Any bundles?

they are taking a hit on the machine, but if you sell more boxes + new required PS+ for online gaming, they can take money from M$ and make it back with all their first party games

Still cheaper than Live, cheaper than the XBone itself, and better benefits.

I'll accept that trade off. Considering I'm a (former) Xbox user it would actually be cheaper to get PS+ anyway...

Well Sony has been losing money hand over foot.

Maybe they decided this was the best strategy to be able to sell more units. Add in charging for online multiplayer and they got some nice revenue streams coming in.
